Edmund Cathers Chosen Rookie of the Week; University of Albany Ranked #14 in Both National Polls - UAlbany Sports 2011


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Edmund Cathers has been named America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men's lacrosse, as announced on Monday, March 14 by the conference office.

Cathers, a freshman goalkeeper from Syracuse, N.Y., made a career-high 17 saves, including eight in the fourth quarter, in a 9-8 upset of No. 5 Massachusetts on March 8. Cathers stopped Mike Fetterly's potential game-tying shot with 11 seconds remaining. He also had 12 saves in last Saturday's 11-9 victory over No. 13 Ohio State. Cathers turned back Logan Schuss' man-up attempt in the final minutes to hold off the Buckeyes' rally. Cathers has a .586 save percentage with an 8.92 goals against average this season.

In addition, UAlbany (3-1) moved into both national top-20 polls for the first time in nearly two years. The Great Danes are No. 14 in the USILA and Nike/Inside Lacrosse rankings. UAlbany makes its first appearance in the USILA poll since April 20, 2009.
