Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Mike Black has been chosen America East Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball, as announced on Monday, Feb. 28 by the conference office.
Black, a sophomore guard from Chicago, Ill., averaged 22.0 points and 5.0 assists in a pair of America East victories over UMBC (83-67) and Maine (81-77, OT) last week. He netted a career-high 26 points and made two of his career-best five 3-point field goals in the extra period against Maine, as the Great Danes finished in a tie for third in the conference's regular-season standings. Black also had 18 points and five assists against UMBC on Feb. 23. He has scored in double figures in 19 of 25 games played.
Black, a member of last year's conference all-rookie team, is averaging 12.4 points, 2.9 assists and 2.0 rebounds this season. He is seventh among the America East assists leaders.
Paw Prints: UAlbany (16-15, AE 9-7) has won four in a row ... the Great Danes last strung together four victories as part of a five-game win streak, from Nov. 19-Dec. 1, 2008 ... UAlbany owns its highest win total since 2006-07 and its most conference victories in three years ... the Great Danes have bettered last year's win total by nine after 31 games ... freshman Luke Devlin recorded his sixth career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds vs. Maine ... Tim Ambrose is fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,558 points and has reached double figures 80 times as a collegian ... Logan Aronhalt, a 6'3" sophomore, averaged 18.0 points in last week's action... UAlbany has reached the 15-win plateau in five of the last six seasons ... the Great Danes are the No. 4 seed for the upcoming America East Tournament ... UAlbany meets Stony Brook in the America East Conference Tournament's quarterfinal round on Saturday, March 5 at 12:05 p.m. in West Hartford, Conn.
