University of Albany Volleyball's Teresa Coppiellie & Abbey Wexel Earn America East Conference Weekly Awards - UAlbany Sports 2010


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Teresa Coppiellie and Abbey Wexel earned their second America East Conference weekly volleyball awards, as announced by the league office on Monday, Oct. 11. Coppiellie was named the conference's player of the week, while Wexel was the league's top setter for the second consecutive week. The Great Danes won all three matches.

Coppiellie recorded three straight double-doubles, averaging 4.18 kills and 4.27 digs per set. She also recorded two solo blocks and two block assists. The senior outside hitter completed her first double-double of the week in a televised match against non-conference opponent Colgate on Oct. 6, recording 10 kills and 19 digs. Coppiellie then totaled 15 kills and 13 digs in a three-game sweep of Providence on Friday before finishing with 21 kills and 15 digs in a Sunday's 3-1 win over league opponent New Hampshire.

Wexel averaged 11.0 assists and 2.64 digs, recording double-doubles in two of three matches last week. She added three block assists and three service aces, while quarterbacking the Great Danes to a .269 hitting percentage. In a win over Colgate, Wexel finished with a career-high 50 assists along with 12 digs. In the win over America East opponent Providence, she totaled 31 assists as well as two aces before wrapping up the week with 40 assists and 14 digs in the win over New Hampshire.

UAlbany (13-5, AE 3-0) is the only undefeated team in conference play after winning five straight matches. The Great Danes have won 25 consecutive regular-season league matches, dating back to the 2008 campaign. UAlbany will return to action this weekend, visiting America East opponents Stony Brook and Hartford.
