Daphne Voormolen Leads #17 University of Albany Field Hockey to a 3-2 Win Over Providence - UAlbany Sports 2010


Providence, R.I. - Freshman Daphne Voormolen scored a goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead #17 UAlbany to a 3-2 win over Providence in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon at the Providence Field Hockey Complex.

Voormolen got the Great Danes on the board at 13:00, taking an assist from Alysia Hough and converting a hard shot from the top of the circle. Ashlyn Hudson tied the game for Providence in the 35th minute to send the teams to halftime knotted at 1-1. Hudson then assisted on Kelly Grogan's goal to start the second half, giving the Friars a 2-1 advantage. In the 46th minute, Corrine McConville tied the score at 2-2, taking assists from Christina Patrick and Ashlyn Bach on a direct corner shot at the top of the circle. Just over a minute later, Patrick took an assist from Voormolen to put the Great Danes back on top and seal up the win.

UAlbany outshot the Friars, 10-9, and held an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners. Kathi Weidman went the distance in the cage for Providence (2-9), making four saves. Christine Hoffman and Kristi Troch split time in the cage for the Great Danes, with Hoffman making one save and Troch picking up her fifth win of the season.

UAlbany (10-2) will return to action on Saturday, hosting America East Conference opponent Maine in a Homecoming Weekend game at 4 p.m.
