Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Sarah Iannone won two singles matches, including posting a victory in the Flight C finals, to lead the UAlbany tennis team on the final day of the Marist Invitational. Iannone also teamed up with Aubrey Brooks to win the finals of Flight B doubles.
Iannone recorded a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win over Fordham's Sarah Tremaine in the semifinals before posting a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Ayushi Sinha of Providence in the finals. Iannone and Brooks later defeated Marist's Joanna Macaluso and Retta Byron, 8-0, in doubles action. In other singles action, Melissa Coughlin recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win over Providence's Kathryn Parry before falling to Melissa Ferry, also from Providence, 6-1, 6-1 in the Flight D finals. Laine Mackey won her semifinals match in Flight B singles, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win over Siena's Jessica Asselin. Mackey then dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to the Friars' Maria Clara Bernardez in the finals. In further doubles play, Mackey teamed up with Susan Ma for an 8-4 win over Kyrsten Chen and Linnea Enoh-Janssen from St. Peter's.
UAlbany will return to action on Oct. 22, at the ITA Regionals.
