University of Albany's Jeffery Barnes Garners America East Men's Track Performer of the Week Laurels

Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Jeffery Barnes was named the America East Conference Men's Track Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The senior sprinter is the sixth member of UAlbany's men's program, which is currently ranked second in the Northeast Region by the USTFCCCA, to be recognized by the league and fourth to garner the track performer award this winter.

Barnes accounted for two IC4A qualifying times and a school record at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, which had six of the nation's top-25 teams in attendance. The senior sprinter qualified for the IC4A meet for the first time in his career in the 400-meter dash, placing sixth in the college race in a personal-best time of 49.00 seconds. He then anchored the third-place 4x200-meter relay team which broke the school record by hitting the tape in 1:28.74. It was also the third-fastest time in the nation this winter. Barnes ended the meet by running the leadoff leg for the victorious 4x400-meter relay team which placed first in the New York-New Jersey race in 3:14.87, a mark which has not been matched by another America East school this winter.

Selected student-athletes of the UAlbany men's and women's indoor track and field programs will trek to the University of Arkansas to compete at the Tyson Invitational against many of the top-ranked schools in the country on Feb. 12-13, while full squads will compete at a tri-meet at Binghamton along with Syracuse on Feb. 12.
