Tennis Falls to Long Island, 4-3, in Non-Conference Tennis Action

Brooklyn, N.Y. - With wins at the top doubles and singles position, Selma Babic led Long Island to a 4-3 win over UAlbany in non-conference women's tennis action on Friday afternoon. The Blackbirds earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, while the Great Danes earned three singles wins in super tiebreakers, with the final set going to the player who reached 10 points first.

Susan Ma and Caitlyn Crowley earned singles wins at the third and fourth position, respectively, while Sarah Iannone won No. 6 singles. Ma defeated Aleksandra Pavlovic, 6-4, 0-6, 10-5. Crowley, who dropped the first set against Taysha Blessington, 0-6, came back with set wins of 6-4 and 11-9 in the tiebreak for the victory. Iannone also dropped her first set against Stephanie Elie, 4-6, but rallied back for 6-2 and 10-8 scores to earn the third point for the Great Danes.

Babic defeated Livia Gherman, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and also teamed up with Pavlovic for an 8-4 win over Gherman and Ma at the top doubles spot. Linn Sjogren held on for a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Laine Mackey at second singles, and combined with Blessington to defeat Mackey and Aubrey Brooks at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Dara Lahens claimed the third singles win for the Blackbirds with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brooks at the No. 6 slot. Lahens, along with Elie, defeated Crowley and Iannone, 8-6, in the third doubles match.

UAlbany will return to action on the road on Sunday, Feb. 12, visiting Colgate for a non-conference match starting at 12 p.m.
