Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Mike Black has been selected America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men's basketball, as announced on Monday, Feb. 15 by the league office. Black was voted the conference's rookie award for the second consecutive week.
Black, a freshman from Chicago, Ill., averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games last week. The 6-foot guard scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half in leading his team to a 75-62 road win at UMBC on Feb. 13. Black made a career-high four 3-pointers and handed out four assists, as the Great Danes ended an eight-game slide. He also netted 14 points and grabbed a career-best five rebounds against New Hampshire on Feb. 9.
Black owns a four-game, double-figure scoring streak and is averaging 14.5 points in that span. He is contributing 6.6 points, 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 27 appearances this season.

UAlbany ended a nine-game road loss skein and an 11-game conference road losing streak, dating back to Jan. 11, 2009 ... Tim Ambrose recorded his second career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds at UMBC ... Ambrose has scored in twin figures 50 times as a collegian ... UAlbany meets Stony Brook at SEFCU Arena on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:04 p.m. ... the contest will be televised on MSG-Plus (Time Warner Cable, Channel 26) and ESPN360.com ... UAlbany's senior class will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony.
