Albany, N.Y. – Freshman forward Debbie Bell recorded all four goals for Kent State to lead the Golden Flashes to a 4-3 double-overtime win over #20 UAlbany on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field.

Bell started the scoring in the first half, giving the Golden Flashes a 1-0 lead at 7:14 with an unassisted shot past UAlbany goalkeeper Ashley Ross. Kent State held onto the one-goal lead through halftime, before senior midfielder Michele Polizois tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty corner goal at 38:55.

Bell recorded her second goal of the game on a Kent State penalty corner in the 61st minute, taking assists from Allison Kittelberger and Rachel Miller. Just over a minute later, Polizois netted her second tally, again on a penalty corner, with assists going to Jess Lindsey and Michelle Simpson. Bell struck again at 63:06, as there was a scramble in front of the cage. Bell tipped the ball in off a defender’s stick to put the Golden Flashes up, 3-2.

UAlbany would not fold, however, as sophomore forward Alysia Hough carried the ball into the circle off of the restart and knocked in an unassisted shot past Kent State goalkeeper Caroline Suitch.

After a scoreless first overtime, the Golden Flashes took advantage of their lone penalty corner less than five minutes into the second extra period. Bell received the inbounds pass and dribbled into the circle, slipping a shot into the bottom left corner of the cage to end the game with the sudden victory.

UAlbany outshot Kent State 19-11 in the game and held a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners. Ross made six saves in the cage for the Great Danes while Suitch made seven stops between the pipes for Kent State (5-3).

UAlbany (5-3) will return to action with a midweek game against Colgate on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at Alumni Turf Field.
