Albany, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Lauren Carey scored the only goal of the game to give Colgate a 1-0 win over No. 18 UAlbany on Wednesday evening at Alumni Turf Field.

After 54 scoreless minutes, Carey picked up the ball in a scramble in front of the cage following a penalty corner and slipped the ball past UAlbany goalkeeper Christine Hoffman. Hoffman, in her first start of the season, made three saves between the pipes for the Great Danes.

UAlbany (5-4) had several scoring opportunities in the second half, outshooting the Raiders 8-3 in the final 35 minutes. The Great Danes, who recorded all ten of their penalty corners in the second half, also recorded ten shots on goal, with four coming from senior midfielder Michelle Simpson. Colgate goalkeeper Sarah Pederson stopped all ten of UAlbany’s shots for the shutout win. Colgate (5-4) finished with eight shots and six penalty corners.

UAlbany will return to action on Saturday, visiting Massachusetts for a 12 p.m. start. The Minutewomen were receiving votes in the latest NFHCA Division I National Coaches’ Poll.
