UAlbany Political Science Professor Joseph Zimmerman will talk about comprehensive reform of New York State governance during a presentation at UAlbany Community Day on October 10.
University at Albany Political Science Professor Joseph Zimmerman is among a chorus of advocates proposing comprehensive reform of New York's governance process, including a revamping of the state's constitution. Zimmerman will attempt to sort out and propose remedies for New York's legislative process during a presentation at UAlbany Community Day on October 10th at noon in Room 126 of the Fine Arts Building.
The talk is open to the public.
Among the proposals Zimmerman will discuss in "Reforming the New York State Legislature," are the Model State Constitution, the Initiative, the Protest Referendum, the Recall, Nonpartisan Elections, and Proportional Representation.
Zimmermans talk will be among a bevy of activities at UAlbany Community Day, designed to showcase the University's academic and cultural strengths. The Day -- which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- will boast faculty presentations on topics ranging from the historical significance of the Battle of Saratoga to nanotechnology; interactive student step dancing, salsa and belly dancing demonstrations; a farmer's market; bomb-sniffing dog and sheepherding exhibitions; and a faculty meet and greet.
UAlbany Community Day is part of the University's Homecoming/Family and Reunion Weekend, which features an alumni luncheon honoring activist Harvey Milk, '51, a speech by former Secretary of State Colin Powell and a lecture by Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman.
