UAlbany Tennis Competes at Virginia Tech's Hokie Fall Invitational


Blacksburg, Va. - Caitlin Crowley and Aubrey Brooks competed in singles play, then teamed up for doubles action on the first day of the 16th Annual Hokie Fall Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Friday. Teammate Livia Gherman also competed in singles action at the tournament.

Gherman dropped a three-set match to Diana Navrostskaya from East Tennessee State, falling 6-4 in the first set before posting a 6-3 win in the second. Navrostskaya responded with a 6-3 third set to take the match in the first round of competition in Flight B. Gherman will play Radford's Mirna Matic in the second round of play.

In Flight C singles, Brooks lost a 6-4, 6-4 match to Appalachian State's Amanda Cash. In the second round, Brooks lost to Virginia Tech's Katie Blow, 6-4, 6-0. She will play in the Flight C consolation round on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Senior Caitlin Crowley dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Thaddea Lock of Marshall. Earning a bye in the second round, Crowley will await her opponent in the Flight D consolation round on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Brooks and Crowley teamed up to take on Shannon Betts and Courtney Rauscher of Virginia Tech in Flight B doubles competition. The Great Danes dropped an 8-3 decision and will face Kelby Marston and Jessica Ratcliff of East Tennessee State on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
