Albany, N.Y. – Charlotte Tatler recorded a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Emma Rudnik at No. 3 singles and teamed with Holly Smith to record an 8-1 win over Rudnik and Emily Maer in leading UAlbany to a 7-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at the UAlbany Bubble. The Great Danes then traveled to Massachusetts on Sunday, falling to the Minutewomen 5-2.
In Saturday’s match against the Crusaders, UAlbany earned the doubles points with three straight victories. Sophomores Susan Ma and Laine Mackey took an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles over Kristen Miehl and Carolyn Chandlay. Tatler and Smith combined for the second doubles win, while Kim Weltman and Aubrey Brooks teamed up for an 8-0 sweep of Kathryn Wilkie and Paige Brown at the third position.
Ma posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Miehl at No. 1 singles, while Weltman defeated Maer, 6-0, 6-2 at the second position. Mackey dropped just one set against Chandlay at No. 4 singles, winning with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Smith defeated Hailee Lange, 6-2, 6-1, while Melissa Coughlin wrapped up the singles victories with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ivette Knopoch at No. 6.
The Great Danes posted two singles wins at Massachusetts on Sunday, with Mackey and Brooks coming away with victories. Mackey defeated Kaitlyn Carpenter at the fourth position, 6-4, 7-5, while Brooks recorded a 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 win over Lauren Mackay at No. 6 singles. The Minutewomen swept the rest of the points, despite Tatler forcing a third set against Maude Leclyuse, falling 6-4 in the first set and recording a 6-0 second before falling, 6-4, in the final. Weltman also went three sets at No. 2 singles against Candynce Boney, dropping a 6-2 first set and claiming a 6-3 win in the second. Boney earned the point for the Minutewomen with a 6-2 final set.
UAlbany (5-1) will return to action on Feb. 28, hosting NJIT at the UAlbany Bubble.
