University of Albany Prepares for Saturday's Big Purple Growl & Ferocious Feast Festivities

Albany, N.Y. -- The University at Albany’s Big Purple Growl and Ferocious Feast will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at SEFCU Arena on campus. UAlbany’s Winter Homecoming features an America East Conference basketball doubleheader, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The women meet conference-rival Binghamton in the first game, while the men tangle with league co-leader Vermont at 7:00 p.m.

Time Warner Cable (TW3) will televise the both Big Purple Growl games, with Rodger Wyland and UAlbany Hall of Famer John Quattrocchi handling the play-by-play duties. The Ferocious Feast will be conducted in University Gymnasium, adjacent to SEFCU Arena, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. as part of the festivities. The BPG doubleheader has averaged 3,644 fans over the previous eleven years, including three consecutive sellouts.

Big Purple Growl T-shirts, courtesy of Verizon Wireless, will be distributed to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Someone will shoot for a 2009 Toyota Scion, as presented by Capital Region Toyota Dealers. UAlbany’s pep band, dance team and cheerleaders will perform.

Students will participate in the CDTA Shot for Tuition, with the winner receiving an award that is equivalent to one semester’s in-state tuition. Residential Life will sponsor a housing lottery for UAlbany students during halftime of the men’s game. Time Warner Cable, Butcher Block and Bountiful Bread are among several companies who are making hundreds of prizes available.
