University of Albany's Katie Dunn Selected America East Conference Soccer Rookie of the Week - UAlbany Sports 2010


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Katie Dunn has been chosen America East Conference Rookie of the Week in women's soccer, as announced on Monday, Oct. 18 by the conference office.

Dunn, a freshman from Devon, Pa., scored her first career goal in last Thursday's 1-0 league win over Maine. She helped UAlbany record its first victory in the series as Maine had won the previous nine meetings. The midfielder scored in the 51st minute. She also placed two shots at the net in Sunday's 1-0 triumph against UMBC, as the Great Danes extended their unbeaten streak to five in a row. Dunn has been a starter in 13 of 16 matches this season. She led her Conestoga High School squad to two state championships and was an all-area and all-league selection.

UAlbany (8-6-2, AE 3-1-2) is having its best season in two decades and wraps up regular-season play with America East matches against Boston U. and Vermont this week. The Great Danes are currently in third place in the conference standings.

Paw Prints: UAlbany has tied the program's Division I single-season record with eight wins ... the Great Danes also won eight matches last season ... UAlbany last reached the 10-win mark in the 1988 campaign as a NCAA Division III program ... Shayla Bergeron is tied for fourth among the America East Conference scoring leaders with eight goals and 16 points ... Bergeron is also tied for second among the conference's best with four game-winning goals ... the sophomore netted the game's lone goal in the 88th minute in Sunday's victory over UMBC ... goalkeeper Breanna Maggio is fourth in GAA (1.10) and fifth in save percentage (.787), plus leads the league in shutouts with six.
