UAlbany Names Logan Aronhalt & Blake Metcalf Basketball Captains for 2010-11 Season


Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany head men's basketball coach Will Brown announced on Wednesday, Oct. 13 that Logan Aronhalt and Blake Metcalf have been named captains for the 2010-11 season. Aronhalt and Metcalf are the third and fourth sophomores to be selected during the program's Division I era. Will Brand (2000) and Levi Levine (2004) were also captains as sophomores.

Aronhalt, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 6.7 points and 1.8 rebounds as a redshirt freshman. He scored in double figures eight times, including a career-high 18 against Hartford in the regular-season finale. Aronhalt totaled 16 points and six rebounds in the America East Conference tournament quarterfinals against Stony Brook. He was chosen conference rookie of the week once. A native of Zanesville, Ohio, Aronhalt played for his father on the high school level and was the OHSBCA Division I Player of the Year in 2007-08.

Metcalf, who is in his second season with the UAlbany program, started 10 of 32 games played as a true freshman. He averaged 2.0 points and 3.9 rebounds, plus blocked 14 shots. He collected five or more rebounds against 12 opponents, include a career-best 11 caroms against UMBC. He was voted America East rookie of the week last November. As a scholastic player in Camby, Ind., Metcalf earned Associated Press Class 4A honorable mention all-state recognition.

UAlbany will hold its annual Purple-Gold intrasquad scrimmage at SEFCU Arena on Friday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. ... the scrimmage will be held prior to UAlbany football's home game with Northeast Conference opponent Central Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m. ... the football game was previously moved to Friday to accommodate the Northeast Conference television package and will air on MSG-Plus, Fox College Sports, Cox Cable (CT/RI) and CTSN ... America East Conference Basketball Media Day is slated for Thursday, Oct. 14 in Hartford, Conn.
