University of Albany Homecoming 2010 - Schedule of Events: Oct 8-10

The three-day weekend has something for everyone. Whether it's football, farmers' market, student performances, the spirited tailgate, the 5K run, wine tasting, reunions, Great Danes Great Bash, academic and sporting events, we'll give you plenty of reasons to return to campus in the fall.

To thank our donors for putting The World Within Reach for our students, George R. Hearst III, President of The University at Albany Foundation and George M. Philip '69, '73, President of the University at Albany, will host a Private Reception for donors and student scholarship recipients, followed by the Reaching Higher, Achieving More luncheon. Donors and students will have an opportunity to mingle and have keepsake photos taken before attending the luncheon, which will recognize longtime UAlbany supporters Evan Michael Zahn '82 and Kathryn Zox '83. Reaching Higher, Achieving More is an alumni campaign designed to showcase the remarkable career paths of the University at Albany graduates. They are entrepreneurs, educators, lawyers, corporate leaders, entertainers, doctors, social workers, authors, policymakers and more, and their impact is truly global. This year will showcase Evan Michael Zahn '82 and Kathryn Zox '83. These alums along with the other alumni inducted into this campaign are points of pride for the entire UAlbany community Register online. Free.

NYS Writers Institute Seminar: "Portrait of the Cuban-American Artist as a Young New York Filmmaker" featuring Hugo Perez
Science Library 340
Hugo Perez, former NYSWI videographer and director of its WMHT television series, The Writer, is a rising filmmaker whose work explores various literary subjects and his Cuban-American heritage. Acclaimed documentaries include Summer Sun Winter Moon (2008), about Native American poet Darrell Kipp, and Neither Memory Nor Magic (2007), about Jewish-Hungarian poet and Holocaust victim Miklos Radnoti. Award-winning shorts include Betty La Flaca (2006) and Julieta Y Ramon (2005), which aired on HBO and Showtime respectively. Perez is currently developing his first feature, Immaculate Conception, a dark comedy set in Miami's Little Havana, based on an original screenplay that earned a Rockefeller Foundation/Tribeca Film Institute Fellowship.

Pick-up will be at the bus stop by the Science Library
Get a guided tour of the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Weather Service Forecast Office at UAlbany and learn about weather forecasts and the technology that gives forecasters the ability to provide accurate weather information. Bus transportation will be available. Bus departs at 10:10 a.m. The tour will begin in the CESTM Rotunda. Registration required. Free. *Individuals will be asked to sign in at the front door of the National Weather Service before entering the forecast facility.

Learn about the latest developments in nanotechnology as you tour the Albany Nanotech complex at the University at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.
