UAlbany Tennis Defeats Niagara, 6-1, For Ninth Straight Win

North Tonawanda, N.Y. – The UAlbany tennis team defeated Niagara, 6-1, in non-conference action to remain undefeated on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Sportsplex in North Tonawanda, N.Y. Laine Mackey and Amanda Hall led the Great Danes, pairing up for a doubles win and posting two singles victories.

Mackey and Hall defeated Raquel Solis and Emma Cunnington, 8-3 at second doubles. Mackey defeated Victoria Tiso, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5 singles action while Hall recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Kim Roberts at the No. 6 position. Kim Weltman teamed up with Charlotte Tatler to defeat Tiso and Roberts, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles, while Aimee Kern and Susan Ma completed the sweep of double’s action with an 8-5 victory over Vanja Lakic and Shella Dargout.

Weltman improved to 7-0 at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lakic while Tatler moved to 8-0 at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Cunnington. Ma registered the Great Danes’ fifth singles win with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Dargout. Solis picked up the Purple Eagles’ lone win at No. 1 singles defeating Kern 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-7.

The Great Danes, winners of nine straight to open the season, return to action on Friday, Feb. 29 at Georgetown.
