UAlbany's Freddie Wills Leads Heptathlon After First Day of Syracuse Invitational

Syracuse, N.Y. – UAlbany’s Freddie Wills leads the men’s heptathlon after the first day of competition at the Syracuse Invitational at Manley Field House.

Wills, who has 3,002 points after four events, won the high jump with a height of 6-feet, 6.75-inches and the long jump with a leap of 23-2. He also came in second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.74 seconds and third in the shot put (37-1). Senior David Parker (Niskayuna) was first in the shot put with a toss of 38-feet, 6.25-inches and has 2,704 total points after day one. In addition, he tied for third in the high jump (6-4.25).

Freshman Kevin O’Riley is in fifth place through four events with 2,663 points. O’Riley had his best performance in the 55-meter dash with a third place showing. Nick Jones is in 12th place with 1,797 points. Jones’ best showing came in the shot put. . Chris Palicka tallied 1,607 points through four events. His best performance came in the 55-meter dash. The heptathlon finishes on Saturday with the 55-meter high hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.

In the women’s pentathlon, senior Valerie Maignan placed fifth and freshman Christen Griffin came in seventh. Maignan posted four top-5 finishes to accumulate 3,015 points. Her best performance came in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds. Griffin came in third in the 55-meter hurdles as she tallied 2,560 total points. Jillian Drouin of Syracuse won the pentathlon with 3,862 points.
