Basketball's Purple & Gold Event on Friday at SEFCU Arena; TWCS TV Package Announced


Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced on Tuesday, Nov. 1 that plans have been finalized for the Purple and Gold Basketball Scrimmage, sponsored in part by the UAlbany Alumni Association. The event will be held at SEFCU Arena on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m.

The school's men's and women's basketball teams will both be on display in controlled scrimmage play. Head coach Will Brown and the men's program has four starters returning, including All-America East Conference guards Logan Aronhalt and Mike Black. Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, the women's head coach, returns Ebone Henry, the America East Defensive Player of the Year and all-conference forward Julie Forster.

In addition, UAlbany's spirit groups, including the cheerleaders, dance team and pep band, will be performing during the expected 90-minute program. There will be contests with the opportunity to win an iPod Nano, a one-semester book scholarship and a flat screen television. The t-shirt gun will also deliver prizes to fans. The event will conclude with a meet and greet, with free pizza and music.

Albany, N.Y. - The University at Albany men's and women's basketball programs are scheduled to have a combined ten games televised as part of Time Warner Cable Sports package during the 2011-12 season.

Time Warner Cable Sports will air four men's games from UAlbany's SEFCU Arena and the Big Purple Growl doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 4. The broadcast schedule includes Colgate (Dec. 7), New Hampshire (Jan. 11), Binghamton (Jan. 25) and Vermont (Feb. 15). The Big Purple Growl features a pair of America East Conference contests against Stony Brook, beginning with the women's game at 4:30 p.m. Rodger Wyland and John Quattrocchi will provide the play-by-play coverage.

Additionally, the Great Danes will face Siena on Time Warner Cable Sports in the Capital Region on Monday, Dec. 5 and could possibly be involved in an ESPN3 broadcast during the second round of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off on Nov. 15.

The UAlbany women will also have non-conference games televised against Siena (Dec. 3) and Canisius (Dec. 22). Both will air on Time Warner Cable Sports.
