Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Gerardo Suero has been chosen by College Sports Madness as the America East Conference Player of the Week for his performance during a period from Nov. 21-27. The Great Danes won three of four games during that stretch.
Suero, a 6-foot-4 guard from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds. He scored 20-plus points in back-to-back home victories against Navy (69-62) and Fairleigh Dickinson (81-62). Suero struck for 23 points off the bench against FDU, including 12-of-12 from the line. He totaled 21 points and six rebounds in the home opener vs. Navy and made all six free throw attempts in the closing stages of the game when the Midshipmen attempted to rally from a 20-point deficit. The junior also had 16 points in an 85-49 victory over Monmouth in the NIT Season Tip-Off's third round, the second-largest win margin in the program's Division I history.
Suero is third among the America East Conference scoring leaders and 20th nationally at 21.0 points per game. He has netted 20 or more points on four occasions this season. He also averages 5.6 rebounds, plus is shooting 50 percent from the field and 79.7 percent from the foul line.
