Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Gerardo Suero has been chosen America East Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball, as announced on Monday, Nov. 21 by the conference office.
Suero, a 6-foot-4 junior, averaged 30.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in two games. He totaled 29 points and nine rebounds as UAlbany held off Brown for a 77-68 victory in the NIT Season Tip-Off's first round on Nov. 14. Suero accounted for 31 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 98-74 loss to No. 5 Syracuse in NIT's second round the following night. He netted the most points by a Great Dane since Jason Siggers had 34 against Vermont on Jan. 13, 2007 and posted the highest total by a Syracuse opponent at the Carrier Dome in three years.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Suero's three-game total of 77 points is the most by a UAlbany player since All-America guard Jamar Wilson had 79 from Feb. 11-20, 2006. He is averaging 25.7 per game.
