Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Julie Forster was named the America East Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first week of the 2011-12 season, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Forster led the Great Danes to a 2-0 start to the season, averaging 21 points and 14 rebounds against Fordham and La Salle. In the season opener at Fordham, Forster scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while also recording five steals, two assists and one block. In the home opener versus La Salle, Forster scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor and converting 10-of-13 shots from the free throw line. She also tied a career-best with 20 rebounds and recorded five blocks, five steals and three assists, all in 40 minutes of action.
Forster shot 57.6 percent (15-26) from the floor for the week and shot 75.0 percent (12-16) from the free throw line. She sat out just one minute of action in the two games.
