Centerville, Mass. – University at Albany’s Meagan Butsch and Leah McIntosh have been named to the ECAC Division I Softball All-Star Team, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, June 9.
Butsch earned her first ECAC all-star selection after landing on the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Northeast Region first team. She was voted America East Co-Player of the Year. Butsch was also a member of the all-conference first team for the second straight season and earned a spot on the all-championship team for the third year in a row. The senior broke school records for home runs in a career (31) and a single season (16). She led the league in home runs, runs scored (50), on-base percentage (.492), slugging percentage (.806) and tied for first in RBI (44). Butsch finished her career ranked second all-time in RBI (121), tied for third in doubles (31) and fifth in both hits (177) and runs scored (118).
McIntosh, a two-time NFCA all-regional selection, is also being honored for the first time by the ECAC for her work in the circle. She became the fourth Great Dane in the past seven seasons to be named the America East Pitcher of the Year. A first-team all-conference standout for the second straight year, she hurled a national-best four perfect games as well as 10 shutouts this spring. The junior broke the Division I program records for career strikeouts (621) and no-hitters (6) while leading the league with a 1.34 ERA. In addition, her 10.6 strikeouts per seven innings ranked first in the conference and third in the country.
Both student-athletes were instrumental in the Great Danes’ run to the championship round of the America East Conference Tournament for the fifth consecutive season. UAlbany set a school record by winning 38 games.
