Washington, D.C. -- University at Albany’s Steve Ammann has been voted to the ESPN The Magazine All-District I Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) on Thursday, May 22. Ammann, a senior midfielder on the lacrosse team, was named to the first team and will advance to the national ballot. Mike Ammann, also a lacrosse midfielder, earned second-team all-district recognition.
Steve Ammann, a native of Putnam Valley, N.Y., was chosen to All-America East Conference second team for the second year in a row. He has a 3.86 cumulative grade point average in business administration with a concentration in finance and marketing. He accounted for 15 goals and 12 assists this season in leading the Great Danes to their seventh consecutive appearance in the conference tournament championship final. Ammann received the 2008 Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award and UAlbany President’s Award for Leadership.
Mike Ammann posted a 3.87 GPA in accounting with a dual minor in business administration and mathematics. He had seven goals and nine assists from his second midfield line. Ammann, who along with his twin brother, led the Great Danes to a pair of NCAA berths and two conference championships during his career. He also received the Presidential-Scholar Athlete Award and President’s Award for Leadership and has worked on community service projects with Juvenile Diabetes and Habitat for Humanity.
