Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Brian Lillis has been selected America East Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men’s basketball for the 2007-08 academic year, as announced on Wednesday, May 14 by the conference office. He has a 3.23 cumulative grade point average in business administration.
Lillis, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward from Urbandale, Iowa, recently received an ECAC Merit Medal as UAlbany’s top senior male student-athlete who combined excellence in athletics and in the classroom. He was voted first-team all-conference and made his second consecutive appearance on the America East all-defensive unit. Lillis was chosen the 2008 America East Fans’ Choice Player of the Year.
One of 10 players at the NCAA Division I level to lead his team in points, rebounds and assists, Lillis ranked among the conference leaders in several statistical categories. He averaged 15.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals. His reverse dunk against Vermont on Feb. 11 made ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day.
Lillis, who led the Great Danes to pair of conference titles and two NCAA berths during his career, was selected to this year’s ESPN The Magazine District I All-Academic Team and was twice a member of the conference’s all-academic squad. He received UAlbany’s 2008 President’s Award for Leadership
