Miles Thompson Named America East Rookie of the Week; UAlbany Hosts #5 UMass on Tuesday - UAlbany Sports 2011


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Miles Thompson has been selected America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men's lacrosse, as announced on Monday, March 7 by the conference office.

Thompson, a freshman attackman from Nedrow, N.Y., had a team-high three goals, his first as a collegian, and added a career-best two ground balls in an 11-9 victory over Delaware on March 4. He scored back-to-back goals in a run of four in a row that gave his team a 9-3 advantage with 7:02 remaining in the third quarter.

Thompson, whose brother, Jeremy, plays at Syracuse, participated in the Under Armour All-America North-South All-Star Game as a high school senior and was a first-team All-Central New York selection.

Paw Prints: UAlbany (1-1) won its home opener for the first time since the 2007 season ... Edmund Cathers made his first start at goalkeeper ... the freshman made 10 saves, including five in the second quarter ... Joe Resetarits had two goals and one assist to extend his point-scoring streak to 21 consecutive games ... the junior attackman missed all but five games with a foot injury last season ... UAlbany hosts Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. at John Fallon Field ... the Minutemen, who are off to a 4-0 start, are ranked No. 5 in both national polls.
