Boston, Mass. -- University at Albany’s Anthony Raffa has been chosen the America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men’s basketball, as announced on Monday, Jan. 12 by the conference office. The freshman guard received the award for the first time this season.
A native of Strathmere, N.J., Raffa scored 14 of his 22 points, tying a career-high, in the second half in Sunday’s 82-77 victory over Vermont. Raffa buried consecutive three-point field goals to give his team the lead for good, 46-43, with 14:02 remaining. He made 9-of-14 from the field and added three assists and two rebounds as his team posted its third straight win at UVM’s Patrick Gymnasium. He has scored in double figures on 10 occasions this season. Raffa averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two conference victories last week.
UAlbany (10-6, AE 2-1) has matched its best 16-game as a Division I program. The Great Danes had this same record in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 campaigns. Raffa is second on the team in scoring at 11.5 points per game, plus is averaging 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
