San Juan, Argentina - UAlbany assistant field hockey coach Andy Thornton led the United States Women's National Indoor Field Hockey team to the silver medal at the 2008 Pan American Games. The team fell to Argentina, 4-2, in the final match.
The U.S. finished with a 6-1 record, posting wins over Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Chile, while also defeating Argentina, 1-0, in the round robin stage. The team then defeated Peru, 2-0, in the semifinals before dropping the championship match to host Argentina. The United States scored a total of 35 games in the tournament, while allowing only six in the seven game competition.
"The experience for our players will put them in good standing for the next Pan Am tournament as the event, and the atmosphere was electric," said Thornton, who was also recently named a captain of the Scottish National Indoor Team.
