Clifton Park, N.Y. – Members of the University at Albany men’s basketball team conducted a youth clinic at the Southern Saratoga YMCA on Sunday, Jan. 4. Head coach Will Brown, UAlbany basketball student-athletes, and YMCA volunteers worked with boys and girls on skills related to baseball, golf, soccer and basketball.
The YMCA’s SAFE program provides physically and mentally challenged youth an opportunity to participate in sports in a non-competitive, fun environment. Participants, who displayed a wide-range of abilities, were instructed by UAlbany’s basketball players and coaches in various informal sessions and some youth played in actual game competition.
The men’s basketball program and the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) are involved in coordinating several community service activities each semester. UAlbany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy has made community service one of the athletic department's top initiatives since he arrived on campus more than eight years ago.
