Albany, N.Y. – UAlbany’s Amanda Cowdrey tallied a game-high 22 kills and added 18 digs to lead the Great Danes to a 3-2 win over UMBC in America East Conference volleyball action on Sunday afternoon at University Gymnasium. UAlbany came back from a 2-0 deficit to take the victory in five sets (33-35, 26-30, 30-18, 30-10, 15-12). The win clinches the sixth consecutive conference post-season tournament berth for the Great Danes.
Kate Eckhardt also posted a double-double, recording 11 kills and a match-high 24 digs for UAlbany. Brook Stanley led all players with 59 assists and also tallied five service aces. Tawny Dahmes had 21 digs, while Ashley Crenshaw (14), Teresa Coppiellie (13) and Kamisha Kellam (20) each scored double-digit kills. Kellam also had six total blocks for the Great Danes.
Ashley Oscars had a team-high 20 kills for the Retrievers and added nine digs. Bridget Scheetz and Tiffany Johnson each recorded 12 kills, while Stacey Carroll led the team in assists with 47 for UMBC (19-10, AE 5-5). Britney Hodson (17) and Pam Jarrett (16) had double-digit digs for the Retrievers.
UAlbany (18-8, AE 7-3) played its final home match of the season and honored seniors Crenshaw and Natasha Marquis prior to the start of the match. The Great Danes will finish up the league portion of their schedule with a pair of matches next weekend at Maine on Friday, Nov. 9 and then at New Hampshire on Sunday, Nov. 11.
