Gaby Seguin-Gauthier Scores as UAlbany Ties Hartford 1-1

Albany, N.Y. – UAlbany’s Gaby Seguin-Gauthier scored in the 87th minute, but Hartford responded less than 30 seconds later, as the two teams tied, 1-1, in double overtime in America East Conference action on Sunday, Nov. 4. With the draw, UAlbany is knocked out of playoff contention, while Hartford clinches the fourth seed in the conference’s postseason tournament.

The Great Danes and Hawks played a scoreless first half to go into intermission dead-locked. Hartford’s best scoring opportunity occurred with 30 minutes remaining in the first half when Oswald Adu drew UAlbany goalkeeper Steward Ceus out of net, but Brian Gordon blocked the shot out of bounds for the Great Danes.

Just over seven and a half minutes into the second half, freshman Ian Peach had a header attempt from the goal box saved by Hartford goalie Matt Glaeser. UAlbany pressured the goal in the 68th minute but Glaeser turned aside a sliding shot by Sander Anker.

Seguin-Gauthier gave the Great Danes the lead as he received a flighted ball from classmate Mikael-Taylor McNamara and broke down the left sideline. After cutting towards the middle of the field, Seguin-Gauthier slotted a shot past Glaeser with 3:47 remaining in regulation.

Hartford (7-4-6, AE 2-1-5) evened the score on header by Andreas Blamo off a feed from Corey Patrick with less than three and a half minutes remaining. Junior Joe Hogan had a shot on goal with 22 seconds remaining, but Glaeser came up with the diving save to force overtime.

Hartford had a slight advantage in shots in the contest, 13-12, but UAlbany outshot the Hawks 10-7 after intermission. Seguin-Gauthier led the Great Danes in shots with four. Hartford had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks in the match. Ceus registered fives saves in the contest, while Glaeser turned away six shots.

UAlbany closes out its season 3-10-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the America East Conference.
