Washington, D.C. – University at Albany’s Jon Volpe has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-America squad as chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) on Thursday, Nov. 8. Volpe, a senior defensive end, was voted to the academic team for the second straight year.
Volpe, who has a 3.41 cumulative grade point average, earned his undergraduate degree last May in business administration/finance with a minor in education. He is enrolled in the school’s information assurance graduate program. Volpe has 23 tackles with 5.5 hits for a loss and 3.0 sacks for minus-18 yards in nine starting assignments this season. He has been named to the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll three years in a row. UAlbany (6-3, NEC 4-0) is ranked 13th in rushing yards allowed (112.9 ypg), 21st in scoring defense (19.3 ppg) and 32nd in total defense (334.6 ypg) among the NCAA Division I FCS national leaders.
