University of Albany Volleyball Takes Second Match in Home-and-Home Weekend Series With Yale - UAlbany Sports 2010


Albany, N.Y. - Senior Teresa Coppiellie recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore Dunja Prgomet also finished with a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs to lead UAlbany to a 3-2 win over Yale at University Gym in the Great Danes' home opener. A rematch of last night's 3-1 Yale victory in New Haven, UAlbany battled back to win the five-set match with scores of 15-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21 and 15-8.

Along with the strong offensive and defensive play of Coppiellie and Prgomet, UAlbany received 13 kills on a .429 hitting percentage from Traci Vandegrift, who also added seven digs and a service ace. Casey Wright added 14 kills and six total blocks, including five solos. Libero Laurie Gonzalez totaled 15 digs and accounted for five of the Great Danes' 12 service aces, while Abbey Wexel doled out 39 assists to go along with nine digs and two service aces, quarterbacking UAlbany to a .259 team hitting percentage.

Yale (6-5) also had four players with double-digit kill totals, including three with 17. Katie Cordell led the Bulldogs across the board, smacking 17 kills on a .517 hitting percentage to go along with a match-high 23 digs. Kendal Polan finished with a triple-double of 17 kills, 34 assists and 10 digs, while Erica Reetz totaled 17 kills and 12 digs. Haley Wessels was the final Bulldog in double-digit kill figures with 12, while Kerry Clavadetscher just missed out on a double-double with 30 assists and nine digs.

UAlbany (9-5) will return to action on Friday, Oct. 1, visiting UMBC to kick off America East Conference play.
