UAlbany Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Post Top-Three Finishes at Boston College Invite

Boston, Mass. - Paced by sophomores Paul Lagno and Emily Finnegan, the UAlbany men's and women's cross country programs posted top-three finishes at the Boston College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Franklin Park. UAlbany's men's squad finished second among nine teams, while the women placed third among 10 schools in the standings.

The Northeastern men finished 14 points ahead of UAlbany to win the team crown. Riley Masters of Maine claimed the individual title for navigating the 8,000-meter course in 24:50.19. The Great Danes finished ahead of all four America East Conference schools that also attended the meet as well as three institutions which are regionally ranked by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Lagno placed third among 90 runners in a time of 25:08.37 to lead UAlbany. Alex Leuchanka, who won the individual title at the Monmouth XC Kick-Off last weekend, placed second on the squad and sixth in the field in 25:17.24. Ethan Clary was eighth in 25:36.47, while Chris Burke finished one spot behind him in 25:40.31. Greg Kiley rounded out the team's top five by finishing 17th in 25:57.97.

The Boston College women ran away with the team title by finishing 43 points ahead of New Hampshire. The Eagles' Caroline King crossed the finish line first in 17:13.74. UAlbany bettered three America East Conference schools, including three-time defending champion Stony Brook, and three institutions which are regionally ranked.

Finnegan finished 12th among 121 competitors in 18:20.60 to pace the UAlbany women. Kathryn Fanning placed second on the squad for completing the 5,000-meter course in 18:37.80, which was good for 26th overall. Ada Lauterbach (32nd, 18:45.85), Brianne Bellon (33rd, 18:51.15) and Miranda McConnell (35th, 18:53.15) completed the team's top five.

The Great Danes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 to compete at the Br. Doyle Meet of Champions, which will be hosted by Iona College and held at Van Cortlandt Park.
