UAlbany's Alex Leuchanka Named America East Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week

Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Alex Leuchanka was named the America East Conference Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week, as announced on Tuesday, Sept. 21 by the league office. The sophomore is being recognized by the conference for the first time this season and second time of his career.

In a competitive field stacked with 10 Division I teams which were regionally ranked by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Leuchanka led UAlbany to a third-place finish among 19 schools at the 16th Annual Br. "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions. The meet was hosted by Iona College at Van Cortlandt Park. He placed ninth overall in the field of 207 runners by navigating the 8,000-meter circuit in 25:26.84. UAlbany, which had four sophomores among its top-five finishers, placed ahead of seven regionally-ranked institutions, including Kentucky.

The Great Danes will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 to compete at the George Mason Invitational at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va.
Paw Prints: UAlbany's men's and women's cross country programs were ranked 13th and 15th, respectively, in the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Polls released on Sept. 20 ... The region encompasses all of the schools in New York and New England ... Led by sophomores Alex Leuchanka and Emily Finnegan, four of the top five finishers for both UAlbany teams at the Br. "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions were underclassmen ... Four of those 10 student-athletes, which also includes Ethan Clary and R.J. Sniffen, were former Capital Region standouts on the scholastic level ... Through three meets, the Great Dane men's and women's harriers have only finished behind schools which have been regionally ranked by the USTFCCCA.
