University of Albany's Christine Grueniger Chosen America East Conference Lacrosse Player of the Week - UAlbany Sports 2010


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Christine Grueniger has been named the America East Conference Player of the Week in women's lacrosse, as announced on Monday, April 5 by the conference office. Grueniger earned the league's defensive player of the week award earlier this season.

A native of Lindenhurst, N.Y., Grueniger equaled a career-high with five goals, all in the first half, in a 24-3 victory over Binghamton on April 3. She also had five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in an 18-5 road win at Vermont to open conference play on March 31. Her career-best three assists all came in a six-goal outburst to begin the second half. The senior attacker is tied for third on the team in scoring with 21 goals and seven assists this season.

Grueniger became the 12th player in school history to reach the 100-point mark last week. She is currently eighth in goals (84) and 11th in points (106) among the program's all-time leaders.

Paw Prints: UAlbany (8-1, AE 2-0) won its opening two games in America East Conference play for the first time since joining the league in 2002 ... the Great Danes have won eight in a row, their longest streak as a Division I program ... UAlbany tied its Division I single-game scoring mark with 24 goals vs. Binghamton on April 3 and is ranked second nationally in scoring offense (16.89 goals/game) ... Nikki Branchini came close to the NCAA record with 14 draw controls vs. Binghamton ... Branchini, a junior midfielder who shattered UAlbany's Division I single-game standard, added a career-high three points (1 goal, 2 assists) last Saturday ... Taylor Frink is first among the league's scoring leaders with 23 goals and 13 assists ... senior midfielder Olivia Jarem had a career-high four goals at Vermont and came back with a career-high five points (3 goals, 2 assists) against Binghamton ... Kayla Best has scored at least one goal in 55 consecutive games.
