UAlbany's Matt Mackenzie Named America East Conference Lacrosse Rookie of the Week


Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany's Matt Mackenzie has been named America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men's lacrosse, as announced on Monday, March 22 by the conference office.
Mackenzie, a freshman midfielder from Stony Plain, Alberta, scored his first goal as a collegian, picked up a career-high nine ground balls and won 13 of 21 face-offs in Sunday's 11-9 loss to No. 12 Drexel. Mackenzie found the net on a give-and-go play with teammate Brian Caufield after winning a second-quarter draw. He has a .472 face-off percentage through six games.

Paw Prints: UAlbany (0-6) will meet its fourth national top-20 team this season on Saturday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. ... the Great Danes host Bucknell, ranked No. 19 in the USILA coaches' poll and No. 18 in Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll, at John Fallon Field ... Brian Caufield recorded the second-highest point total of his career with two goals and six assists vs. Drexel ... the junior attacker moved past Don Casadonte '84 into seventh place on the school's career assists list (62) ... all-conference attackman Joe Resetarits will miss the remainder of the season with a broken foot ... Resetarits, who had successful surgery on March 19, was the team's leading scorer through the opening five games with 13 goals and three assists.
