UAlbany Releases Men's and Women's Basketball Schedules for 2007-08 Season

Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Lee McElroy announced on Thursday, Oct. 4 the school's men's and women's basketball schedules for the 2007-08 season. The America East Conference has released schedules for all nine member institutions.

The men's conference schedule begins on Jan. 3 against New Hampshire at Lundholm Gymnasium. The season concludes with the America East Conference Tournament on March 7, 8, 9 and 15. Binghamton University's Events Center will host the first round, quarterfinals and semifinals.

The Great Danes, who are coming off consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, open their schedule on the road with a pair of 22-win clubs in Bucknell (Nov. 10) and Central Connecticut State (Nov. 14). UAlbany's non-conference schedule features Duke, a program that has won three national titles under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, and an appearance in the ESPNU BracketBusters series for the third consecutive season. Boise State, last year's BracketBusters opponent, is among five non-league opponents that will play at SEFCU Arena. The Great Danes will also host Columbia (Nov. 17), Lehigh (Nov. 20), Sacred Heart (Nov. 25) and St. Francis, N.Y. (Dec. 15). UAlbany faces Iowa State on Dec. 30 in the program's first-ever meeting with a Big 12 Conference school and tangles with Siena in the crosstown-rivalry's 48th meeting on Saturday, Dec. 1.

UAlbany will again make several television appearances in 2007-08, with 11 games scheduled to be aired on a national or regional basis. ESPN2 will televise the matchup with Duke on Monday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. The Great Danes will appear three times on the America East TV package, including dates with Vermont (Jan. 6 & Feb. 11) and Boston University (Jan. 16). Time Warner Cable is tentatively scheduled to air seven home games, highlighted by the Big Purple Growl contest with Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The women's program has a 16-game America East schedule that starts on Jan. 5 at New Hampshire. The Great Danes meet Maine in their first conference home game on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2:00 p.m. The season ends with the America East Conference Tournament on March 13-16 at the University of Hartford's Chase Arena.

UAlbany begins play on the road against NIT participant Indiana on Nov. 9, while the home opener at SEFCU Arena against Colgate is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. The non-league slate includes an appearance in Long Island's Turkey Classic on Nov. 23-24 and a first-round matchup with defending Patriot League champion Holy Cross. In addition to the Colgate contest, UAlbany meets non-conference opponents Buffalo (Dec. 5), Marist (Dec. 22) and St. Francis, N.Y. (Dec. 28) at home. The crosstown meeting with Siena returns to a doubleheader format at the Times Union Center on Dec. 1.

The Great Danes entertain Boston University at SEFCU Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 12 noon, as part of NCAA Commitment to Education Day. The game will be televised by Time Warner Cable in the Capital Region. UAlbany squares off with Stony Brook in the first half of the Big Purple Growl doubleheader, the University's Winter Homecoming, on Feb. 2.
