University of Albany Takes Third in 104th Millrose Games' 4x800-Meter Relay With ECAC-Qualifying Time - UAlbany Sports 2011

New York City, N.Y. - University at Albany's Peter Rowell anchored his team to a second-place finish in the Gotham Cup college men's 4x400-meter relay on Friday, Jan. 28 at the 104th Millrose Games. Mississippi State won the race in 3:18.47 at Madison Square Garden. UAlbany relay members Jonathan Santana, Ebube Abara and Alex Petit-Frere helped the squad place ahead of Cornell and Bucknell in a time of 3:23.34.

The Great Danes were fifth in the Byron Dyce men's 4x800-meter relay, but qualified for the IC4A championships by more than nine seconds over the 11-lap per mile circuit. The relay of Nick Santos, Aaron Lozier, Sean Halpin and Paul Lagno hit the tape in 7:43.51. Virginia was first across the line in 7:36.37.

UAlbany placed third in the women's 4x800-meter relay and easily qualified for the ECAC Championships in March. The group of Sherez Mohamed, Brianne Bellon, Jonelle White and Kathryn Fanning reached the finish line in 9:18.58, nearly seven seconds better than the ECAC standard.

Wilfredo de Jesus Elias was fourth in the Al Oerter weight throw with a toss of 62-feet, 8-inches on his first attempt. The defending America East Conference champion recorded the second-best throw in UAlbany history. He established the school standard (63-6.75) on Feb. 6, 2009 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. Kadine Johnson was seventh in the women's weight throw with a season-best mark of 58-feet, 2.50-inches, a distance she met on the second of six attempts. Johnson set the school record (59-0) on Jan. 30, 2010.
