Worcester, Mass. - Aubrey Brooks defeated Ivette Kanopka, 6-3, 6-1, in singles action and teamed up with Caitlin Crowley for a doubles victory to lead UAlbany to a 6-1 win over Holy Cross in non-conference tennis action on Friday afternoon.
Brooks posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to help take five of the six the singles matches for the Great Danes. Livia Gherman came back for a 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Kristen Meahl at the top singles spot, while Crowley defeated Hailee Lange, 6-3, 6-1, and No. 3 singles. Sarah Iannone posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kathryn Wilke at No. 5 singles, while Melissa Coughlin wrapped up UAlbany's singles victories with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Jen Daffron. Holy Cross earned its lone point with a singles win, as Emily Marr defeated UAlbany's Laine Mackey, 6-4, 6-0.
The Great Danes took two of three doubles matches to earn the point. Susan Ma and Gherman recorded an 8-3 win over Meahl and Caroly Chandley at the top doubles spot, while Brooks and Crowley defeated Marr and Emma Rednick, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. The Crusaders took the third doubles match, as Wilke and Kanopka defeated Iannone and Coughlin, 8-4.
UAlbany will return to action on Saturday, taking on Sacred Heart at 1 p.m.
