University of Albany Goalkeeper John Carroll Named America East Conference Lacrosse Player of the Week - UAlbany Sports 2010


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's John Carroll has been named America East Conference Player of the Week in men's lacrosse, as announced on Monday, March 29 by the conference office.

Carroll, a sophomore goalkeeper from Nesconset, N.Y., made six of his 14 saves in the fourth quarter in his team's 7-6 upset of nationally-ranked Bucknell on March 27. The Bison were No. 19 in the USILA poll and ranked No. 18 by Nike/Inside Lacrosse. Carroll stopped two shots by attackman Charlie Streep in the final moments, including a tip of his attempt at the goal with two seconds remaining, to preserve UAlbany's first win of the season.

Carroll, who has a .515 save percentage, leads America East in saves at 12.57 per game. He has stopped double-figure shots is six of seven starting assignments this season.

Paw Prints: UAlbany begins America East Conference play on Wednesday, March 31 at Hartford (3:30 p.m.) ... the Great Danes ended an eight-game skid against national top-20 teams in the Bucknell win ... UAlbany last defeated a top-20 club on March 10, 2009, a 12-9 decision against No. 13 Massachusetts ... Brian Caufield, who is on the 2010 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, is ninth among the NCAA Division I assists leaders (2.29 pg) ... defenseman Brendan Gleason is eighth in caused turnovers at 2.17 per game ... UAlbany meets second-ranked Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on Saturday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m. (Time Warner Cable, TW3).
