University of Albany Indoor Track & Field Teams Combine to Post Seven IC4A and ECAC Qualifying Marks at Yale - UAlbany Sports 2010

New Haven, Conn. - Alie Beauvais, Tyler Fogarty and Fey Adaramola were among five Great Danes to factor into a pair of IC4A and ECAC qualifying times and lead a stellar season debut for the UAlbany men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic on Saturday, Jan. 9. Thirteen of the marks posted by the Great Danes at the non-scoring meet were America East Conference bests this winter.

Adaramola and Beauvais, both senior captains, paced a strong outing by the sprinters with runner-up finishes in their respective events. Adaramola clocked in a personal-best time of 7.59 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash to meet the ECAC standard, while Beauvais registered a career-best mark of 48.89 in the men's 400 to qualify for the IC4A championship. Adaramola's mark was just .01 seconds off the winning time, which was posted by Connecticut's Danielle Lyte, and .04 seconds shy of the school record of 7.55 recorded by Ellakisha Williamson in 1998.

Freshmen Jake Rachiele, Tristan Akong and Jonathan Santana, last year's New York State federation champion in the 400 on the scholastic level, all recorded top-five performances in the men's sprints. Rachiele was third in the 60 in 7.09, while Akong was fifth in 7.11. Santana completed the 400 in 49.89, which was good for fifth.

Fogarty and Laura Cummings each posted a second-place finish in the Mile to highlight the middle distance group. Fogarty's mark of 4:14.24 qualified him for the IC4A championship. Cummings crossed the tape in 5:04.17, and also recorded a fourth-place time of 2:18.38 in the 800-meter run. Rounding out the list of top-five finishers on the track were Paul Lagno and Alex Leuchanka, who placed third and fourth in the men's 3,000 with marks of 8:39.07 and 8:39.99, respectively.

Celine Cauderlier led all Great Danes in the field events with a first-place finish in the women's pole vault. Cauderlier, who competed at the France National Championships last summer, had a winning mark of 10-feet, 11.75-inches. Pat McNish placed fourth in the women's long jump with a leap of 18-1.75 in her collegiate debut, while Kadeem Howell finished fifth on the men's side with a mark of 21-11.

All three men's relay teams met the standards for March's IC4A meet, while the squad's 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays each recorded winning times to beat out Connecticut and Seton Hall of the Big East Conference in both races. UAlbany's 4x400-meter relay consisting of Peter Rowell, Santana, Ebube Abara and Beauvais finished in 3:18.02, edging out the Huskies by .39 seconds. Nick Santos, Sean Halpin, Fogarty and John Moore combined for a time of 7:44.35 in the 4x800, which was just over two seconds ahead of second-place Seton Hall. Halpin, Abara, Santos and Cory Greczyn teamed up for a fourth-place finish in 10:19.41 as members of the distance medley relay.

In addition, the women's 4x400-meter relay squad met the ECAC standard and placed second behind Connecticut. Sherez Mohamed, Sheena Simpkins, Tierra Chavis and Adaramola's mark of 3:51.55 was just .17 shy of the Huskies' winning time. Simpkins, a transfer from Mount Saint Mary's where she was an eight-time All-Northeast Conference selection, also turned in a sixth-place performance of 58.71 in the 400. The mark was the fastest time recorded by an America East runner this season.

The UAlbany men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at the Penn State Northeast Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. In addition to Penn State, the men's 10-team field is slated to feature five Big East Conference schools and four reigning conference champions. The women's 10-team field is scheduled to be made up of seven institutions from the Big 10 and Big East conferences, including 10th-ranked Penn State and 22nd-ranked West Virginia.
