The New York Giants officially opened training camp at the University at Albany on Sunday, Aug. 2 in preparation for the 2009 campaign. The 80-man preseason roster will step on the field for the first time on Monday at 8:35 a.m. The Giants will also practice in the afternoon at 3:15 p.m. The Giants are scheduled for two practice sessions on Tuesday (Aug. 4) at 8:35 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin discussed the advantages of conducting training camp on the UAlbany campus with the media on Sunday afternoon. “Well in the years that we’ve been coming up here, to me at least, the opportunity to have five grass fields, plus the stadium field has been nice. Also it’s good for our team because they have an opportunity to bond. (Albany) Mayor (Jerry) Jennings has done a tremendous job as far as helping our team with anything we need, he has been constantly available. The university, the city, the people, the fans, they’ve all been great.”

The Giants are traveling to UAlbany for the fourteenth consecutive summer, establishing the longest period at one site in the team's training camp history. The Giants previously spent thirteen summers at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. from 1975-87. The Giants, who have also trained in the states of Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, Wisconsin and Oregon, previously worked out at Fairleigh Dickinson University (1988-95) in Madison, New Jersey prior to their arrival on the UAlbany campus.

In the 13 years that the Giants have trained at UAlbany, the preseason camp has averaged 32,068 fans per summer. Last year's camp drew 44,505 to the Capital Region campus, while the all-time mark of 45,040 was established in 2004. New York Giants training camp begins in the month of August for the first time in the National Football League organization’s history.

An all-session training camp parking pass is $15.00. The daily parking fee is $5.00. UAlbany's Dutch Quad Lot is the primary public parking facility.
