University of Albany Football Places Three Players on 2007 Sports Network FCS All-America Team

Philadelphia, Pa. – University at Albany’s Michael Dungey, Sam Pagano and David McCarty were named on Saturday, Jan. 5 to the 2007 Sports Network FCS All-America squad. Each player was selected in the honorable mention category. There are 116 programs that compete at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) level.

Dungey, who was previously chosen to the College Sporting News All-America Team, led a defensive unit that was ranked nationally in scoring defense (19.4 ppg), rushing defense (118.3 ypg) and total defense (334.0 ypg). Dungey, a 6-foot-2, 275-pound senior from Rochester, N.Y. who made 12 starts at both the tackle and end positions on the defensive line, received UAlbany’s most valuable player award. He was voted All-Northeast Conference for the third year in a row. Dungey made 44 tackles, led the team in hits for a loss (11.5) and was second in quarterback sacks (5.5).

Pagano, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound left guard from Schenectady, N.Y., paved the way for an offense that averaged 28.4 points, the top mark in the conference, and 362.5 total yards. The Great Danes were 20th nationally in rushing at 208.3 yards per game. Pagano, a senior who was chosen the team’s top offensive lineman, made his third straight appearance on the all-conference unit as a first-team selection.

McCarty, a sophomore tailback from Gansevoort, N.Y., rushed for the third-highest single-season total in team history with 1,503 yards and 13 touchdowns. He ran for 100 or more yards in eight games, including six consecutive times to end the season. McCarty ranked 10th in rushing (125.3 pg) and 37th in all-purpose yards (136.2 ypg) among the FCS national leaders. He piled up 247 rushing yards, the highest total in the program’s FCS history, against Central Connecticut State in leading UAlbany to the Northeast Conference championship.
