Ithaca, N.Y. - University at Albany's Nicole Kothe has been named to the ESPN The Magazine District I Academic All-America Softball Team, as announced this week by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The senior was chosen to the all-district second team for the second straight season.
Kothe, a psychology major with a 3.68 cumulative grade point average, is a three-time NFCA Academic Scholar-Athlete who has been a starter in the outfield for the past four seasons. A three-time member of the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll, Kothe carries minors in sociology and education. She has a career batting average of .243 with 111 hits, 50 RBIs, six homers and 70 runs scored.
A native of Middletown, N.Y., she most notably blasted home runs in consecutive games against Maine and Dartmouth. Kothe, who serves on the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a solo home run in the team's 6-3 win over the Black Bears in her final game at Albany Field on April 19. She then drilled her first career grand slam in a 9-2 victory at Dartmouth two days later. Defensively, Kothe has a .959 fielding percentage with just two errors.
