Philadelphia, Pa. – University at Albany’s David McCarty has been chosen to the 2009 Preseason Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America Team. McCarty, a senior tailback from Gansevoort, N.Y., earned third-team recognition.
McCarty received Sports Network All-America and All-Northeast Conference first-team honors last season when he ranked second among the Division I FCS national leaders in rushing at 154.3 yards per game. He shattered the school’s single-season rushing (1,852 yards) and all-purpose running (2,208) standards. McCarty ran for 100 or more yards in 11 of 12 games, including four 200-plus yard efforts. He capped the season with a Gridiron Classic MVP performance against Jacksonville by running for 271 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-0 victory.
McCarty heads into his senior campaign as the school’s career leader in rushing yards (3,353) and all-purpose running yards (3,979). He is also third in career touchdowns (32) and third in scoring with 192 points. McCarty has toppled the 100-yard mark 19 times as a collegian, a school record, and has scored at least one touchdown in 20 consecutive games.
All 14 FCS conferences were represented by at least one player on the Sports Network squad, while 58 teams of the 126 playing in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) received at least one All-America selection.
