Baltimore, Md. – University at Albany’s Brian Caufield has been chosen to the 2009 USILA All-America Team as announced on Thursday, May 21 by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Caufield, who was selected in the honorable mention category, becomes the sixth Great Dane to earn All-America status at the NCAA Division I level.
Caufield, a sophomore attackman from Bay Shore, N.Y., ranked seventh among the national leaders in scoring at 3.64 points per game and sixth in assists (1.93 pg). He totaled 45-plus points for the second year in a row with 24 goals and 27 assists. Caufield is one point short of the 100-career mark after two collegiate seasons.
In 2009, Caufield was named first-team All-America East Conference for the second consecutive season. He accounted for four or more points against seven opponents, including a season-high seven (3 goals, 4 assists) in a victory over nationally-ranked Massachusetts. He handed out a season-best five assists versus top-ranked Syracuse and against Stony Brook in the America East semifinals.
