Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Charity Iromuanya and Julie Forster have been chosen America East Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, in women's basketball, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Feb. 22. It is the first honor of the season for both players, who helped the Great Danes win two of three games last week.
Iromuanya, a senior guard from Lincoln, Neb. who entered the week having never scored more than 20 points, averaged 22.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals in the three games. In a 65-51 win over Binghamton on Feb. 15, the senior tallied 14 of her 22 points in the second half. The 22 points was a career high at the time. She also shot 8-for-13 from the field and made all four of her three-point field goal attempts. Defensively, she held Erica Carter, who was ranked third nationally in three-point field goals per game, to just three points and no field goals from beyond the arc. After netting a team-high 15 points in UAlbany's 51-40 loss to UMBC on Feb. 18, the team captain scored a career-high 29 points to lead her team to a 64-62 overtime victory over New Hampshire on Feb. 21. She also added nine rebounds and a team-leading six assists. Iromuanya grabbed an offensive rebound and put back what later proved to be the game-winning shot in overtime. She also followed her own miss and converted a layup as time expired in the first half.
Forster, a freshman forward from Huntington, N.Y., averaged 7.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks in three games. In the process, she broke Danielle Hutcheson's single-season program record for rebounds by a freshman. The walk-on player started the week by falling just shy of a double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds in the team's 14-point win over Binghamton. After contributing six points and 11 rebounds in a setback against UMBC, Forster eclipsed Hutcheson's standard by grabbing 20 boards in UAlbany's overtime victory at New Hampshire. Her rebound total was a single-game conference best by an America East player this season and fell just shy of breaking the program's single-game record of 22, registered by Casey Stanley versus Nazareth on Feb. 22, 1992. Forster now leads the league in rebounding (8.4 pg) and has pulled down 226 this season. Hutcheson finished the 2001-02 campaign with 216 boards.
UAlbany (10-17, AE 3-11) controls its own destiny and can finish as high as seventh in the regular-season standings if it can register wins in the final week of the season against 24th-ranked Hartford on Feb. 24 and Maine on Feb. 27. Iromuanya, the team's lone senior, will be recognized for her contributions to the program prior to the home finale versus the Hawks.

University of Albany Women's Indoor Track & Field Wins First-Ever America East Conference Championship - UAlbany Sports 2010

Boston, Mass. - University at Albany's Fey Adaramola was named the track performer of the meet in leading her team to its first-ever America East Conference indoor track and field championship on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.
UAlbany claimed the America East indoor women's championship in a competition that came down to the triple jump, the last event of the day. After Boston University tighten the team scoring with victories in the 4x400- and 4x-800-meter relays, the Great Danes picked up 13 points in the triple jump, paced by Sandy Antenor's third-place finish. UAlbany captured first with 168.5 points. The Terriers, who had won four indoor championships in a row, were second with 162.
Alie Beauvais set a meet and school record in winning the 500-meter dash and was a member of the winning distance medley relay as the Great Danes won their fifth consecutive America East men's indoor track and field championship. UAlbany eclipsed the conference record for consecutive men's indoor titles, breaking a mark that was first set by Northeastern, from 1989-92.
"We have a great coaching staff and a great group of young people," explained Roberto Vives, who teams became the first since Northeastern in 2005 to win the men's and women's championships in the same year. "They bought into the vision since September. They trained hard and continued to believe they could do it. We knew that it was going to be tough. It was going to come down to the wire (the women's championship), but our kids rose to the occasion."
The Great Danes were propelled to the women's team title by senior Fey Adaramola, a double-winner in the 55- and 200-meter dashes. Adaramola broke her own school record in winning the 200m championship for the second straight year by sprinting 24.18 seconds. She also hit the tape in 7.10 seconds to win the 55-dash.
"I was so nervous, but I looked at my teammates and saw that they looked extremely hungry (for this championship)," said Adaramola, whose anchored a 4x400 relay that was edged out at the finish line for first place. "When I saw everyone hungry, it made me hungry to perform at my best. My teammates also gave me energy. Everybody's support from the stands and all of our cheers created energy that was empowering."
Laura Cummings was a key figure in the Great Danes' team total by accounting for 16 points in three individual competitions. The senior middle-distance runner recorded third-place showings in the 1,000m (2:57.03) and 5,000m (17:00.92). She also took fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:58.62. Celine Cauderlier was the third women's champion as won Friday's pole vault (11-6.50).
In the men's meet, UAlbany had seven individual champions and one relay winner in accumulating 205 points. Binghamton was second in the team standings with 138. Beauvais' time of 102.32 broke a conference meet standard that had stood since for 19 years. The senior also shattered Howard Sellers' school record that was established in 1993.
John Moore was victorious in the 1,000-meter run after helping the distance medley to a first-place finish on the first day. Moore, who is the school record holder in the 1,000, posted a winning time of 2:26.42. In addition, Moore was third in the 800-meteres (4:06.56). Nasim Siddeeq took home his second consecutive triple jump crown. Siddeeq, who also placed second in the long jump, went 50-feet, 2-inches on his second attempt in the competition.
"I believed this team could do amazing things," stated Beauvais, who also competed on the second-place 4x400-meter relay. "We could win fifteen in a row and I still wouldn't be shocked because this is such a great team and a great program. There is a great team atmosphere and team vibe with this group."
Freddie Wills was first in the high jump, as he cleared the bar a 6-feet, 6-inches. Other winners were Luke Schoen (pole vault), Valete Graham (long jump) and Wilfredo de Jesus Elias (weight throw).
Paw Prints: UAlbany head coach Roberto Vives and his group of assistants were chosen as both the America East Conference men's and women's coaching staffs of the year.

University of Albany Iromuanya's Career Night and Big Second Half Propels Women's Basketball Past Binghamton
.jpg)
Albany, N.Y. - Charity Iromuanya scored 14 of her career-high 22 points in the second half and defensively helped keep one of the nation's top three-point shooters in check to propel the UAlbany women's basketball team to a 65-51 win over Binghamton on Monday, Feb. 15 at SEFCU Arena. The Great Danes, who were supporting the WBCA's "Pink Zone" initiative to raise awareness of Breast Cancer, forced the Bearcats to shoot a season-low 21.5 percent from the floor to earn their second America East Conference win in the past three games.
Binghamton (9-17, AE 5-8), which had won the last three meetings between the teams by an average margin of four points, rallied from a three-point halftime deficit and regained the lead at the 17:14 mark when Andrea Holmes made a shot from the right elbow in transition. Iromuanya then scored seven of the Great Danes' next nine points, which included burying a three-point field goal at the 13:51 mark to break a 34-34 deadlock.
The Bearcats drew even at 41 apiece at the midway point of the frame when Viive Rebane sank two free throws, but UAlbany broke loose by embarking on a 13-2 run. Julie Forster and Iromuanya combined for all of UAlbany's scoring during the stretch. A layup by Ebone Henry, who was named the league's rookie of the week earlier in the day, increased the margin to double digits the rest of the way, and Keyana Williams' free throws with 29 seconds remaining gave the Great Danes their largest lead at 14 points and sealed the final outcome.
"The thing that impressed me the most was that these kids showed they could come back after losing two days ago," said head coach Trina Patterson, whose squad will hit the road to face UMBC on Thursday, Feb. 18. "We kept the foot on the gas pedal (when we got the lead in the second half), and we really focused on playing two offensive halves and two defensive halves. To me, those were our two biggest accomplishments. We also took Erica Carter and Viive Rebane out of the game, and Charity was definitely our MVP tonight."
UAlbany (9-16, AE 2-10) used a balanced scoring attack to jump out to a 13-3 lead by the second media timeout. Defensively, the Great Danes forced the Bearcats to miss 14 of their first 15 shots. The conference's top three-point shooting team fought back and went on a 16-2 run by using the long ball and offensive rebounding to get to the free throw line. A trifecta by Jackie Ward from the right corner put Binghamton ahead for the first time since the opening minutes at the 6:14 mark.
The end of the half featured a wild string of events in the final 40 seconds. With the Great Danes trailing 22-21, Felicia Johnson made a three-point field goal from the top of the key with 18 seconds left. UAlbany maintained possession due to a foul called off the ball, and Iromuanya took advantage of the situation by drilling a shot from beyond the arc to give the hosts a five-point lead with 15 ticks remaining. Holmes' jumper on the ensuing play beat the buzzer, but the hosts still went into the recess with a 27-24 advantage.
"I was able to shoot the ball well, but it felt like somebody got an assist off of almost every shot that I made," added Iromuanya, who was 8-of-13 from the field and was named the team's player of the game. "Felicia and everybody else on the floor were doing a great job of passing and moving the ball, and that helped me to knock down my shots."
In addition to netting a career-best 22 points, Iromuanya shot a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to lead the Great Danes. Along with Henry, who added six points and five rebounds, the duo combined to hold Carter, who ranked third nationally in three-point field goals per game, to just three points and no field goals from behind the arc. Johnson added 14 points and four assists, while Forster finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Holmes, who was named Binghamton's player of the game, finished with a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four assists. Ward added 11 points, and Rebane grabbed 12 boards while being limited to just four points.

.jpg)
Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Jeffery Barnes was named the America East Conference Men's Track Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The senior sprinter is the sixth member of UAlbany's men's program, which is currently ranked second in the Northeast Region by the USTFCCCA, to be recognized by the league and fourth to garner the track performer award this winter.
Barnes accounted for two IC4A qualifying times and a school record at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, which had six of the nation's top-25 teams in attendance. The senior sprinter qualified for the IC4A meet for the first time in his career in the 400-meter dash, placing sixth in the college race in a personal-best time of 49.00 seconds. He then anchored the third-place 4x200-meter relay team which broke the school record by hitting the tape in 1:28.74. It was also the third-fastest time in the nation this winter. Barnes ended the meet by running the leadoff leg for the victorious 4x400-meter relay team which placed first in the New York-New Jersey race in 3:14.87, a mark which has not been matched by another America East school this winter.

University of Albany 4x200-Meter Relay Teams Eclipse School Records at New Balance Invitational
.jpg)
New York, N.Y. - Jeffery Barnes and Alli Rogers anchored the men's and women's 4x200-meter relay teams which eclipsed school records to lead the UAlbany indoor track and field squads against many of the top schools in the country at the New Balance Invitational on Feb. 5-6. The programs combined to set or match three program standards and register 20 IC4A and ECAC qualifying marks at the national meet which was held at the New York City Armory Track & Field Center.
In addition to Texas A&M, which swept the team titles at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the competitive field featured six men's and nine women's teams listed in the USTFCCCA's Division I national rankings. The women's field had four of the top five schools, including Tennessee, which won the indoor national championship last winter, at the prestigious meet.
Freshmen and sophomores helped key the men's and women's 4x200-meter relay squads which broke school records. The men's team consisting of freshmen Jonathan Santana, Jake Rachiele and Tristan Akong as well as Barnes clocked in a third-place time of 1:28.74. Anchored by Rogers, a freshman, the women's group which also included Nyree Richardson, Jessica Hunter and Christen Griffin finished 10th in 1:43.02. Celine Cauderlier matched the program standard of 11-feet, 3.75-inches in the women's pole vault for the second straight week.
Jenn Pierson was among a growing list of first-time IC4A and ECAC qualifiers in an individual event. A transfer from Broome Community College, the junior placed fifth in the college division of the women's 3,000-meter run in 9:58.91 to become the first member of the women's program to qualify for ECACs in a distance event since Alyssa Lotmore in 2007.
The men's and women's sprints produced five qualifying marks for postseason competition. Barnes and Santana will compete at IC4As for the first time in the men's 400 for navigating the track in 49.00 and 49.02 seconds, respectively, in the college race. Beauvais also met the standard for finishing his heat of the championship race in 49.11. Adaramola met ECAC marks for her performances in the 60 (7.62) and 200 (24.88).
UAlbany had three men and one member of the women's program register IC4A and ECAC marks in the horizontal jumps. Fred Casimo most notably placed fourth in the men's long jump college division for flying 24-5.75 and placing fourth. The mark was a personal record by almost a foot for the former Section II athlete and was under an inch shy of Valete Graham's school record. Nasim Siddeeq was 11th in the long jump (23-1.25), while Graham placed 18th in the championship division of the event for leaping 23-6.25. Tiffany Sprenkels led the women's team with a fifth-place mark of 38-11.50 in the triple jump.
Wilfredo de Jesus Elias and Kadine Johnson continued to post some of the top marks among America East student-athletes in the men's and women's weight throw. de Jesus Elias was eighth in the men's championship division for his toss that sailed 60-0.50, while Johnson was 17th in the women's field for her mark of 54-3.75.
For the second straight week, Cummings met the ECAC qualifying times in the mile and 1,000. The senior was third in the championship division of the mile (4:56.74) and ninth in the college race of the 1,000 (2:54.77). Tyler Fogarty (Shenendehowa), John Moore and Nick Santos all produced an IC4A mark for the men's team in championship races. Fogarty was fifth in the 800 (1:50.86), Moore placed seventh in the mile (4:06.53) and Santos finished 13th in the 1,000 in 2:29.04. Through one month of action, six members of the men's team have combined to surpass 13 IC4A qualifying marks in middle-distance events.
Both 4x400-meter relay teams once again qualified for the IC4A and ECAC championship meets in March for their winning performances in the New York-New Jersey races. The men's squad consisting of Barnes, Ebube Abara, Santana and Beauvais hit the tape in 3:14.87, while Sheena Simpkins, Sherez Mohamed, Tierra Chavis and Octavia Clarkson finished in 3:51.34, which was an America East best.
In addition, the men's distance medley relay team consisting of Sean Halpin, Beauvais, Fogarty and Moore topped the America East performance list by over 16 seconds by finishing eighth in 9:53.09. The championship race also included teams from Texas A&M, Arkansas, Duke, Tennessee, Iona, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Brigham Young, George Mason and Texas Tech.
Selected student-athletes of the UAlbany men's and women's indoor track and field programs will trek to the University of Arkansas to compete at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 12-13, while most of the Great Danes will participate in a tri-meet at Binghamton along with Syracuse on Feb. 12.

Women's Lacrosse Picked to Tie for Third in America East Conference Preseason Poll
.jpg)
Cambridge, Mass. - After winning nine games and posting its first winning record since 2000, UAlbany has been chosen to finish in a tie for third in the America East Conference women's lacrosse preseason poll, as announced on Thursday, Feb. 4 by the conference office. Defending champion Boston University is the unanimous favorite to win the conference title, as voted by the league's head coaches.
Head coach Lindsay Hart is in her fifth season at the helm. The Great Danes have 17 returning letterwinners, including nine starters, from last year's 9-8 squad that advanced to the America East semifinals.
Kayla Best, a two-time first-team all-conference selection, ranked fourth in goals (2.62 pg) and seventh in scoring (3.31 ppg) among the America East leaders last year. Best, who accounted for 42 goals and 11 assists, has scored at least one goal in 46 consecutive games. Nikki Branchini, who like Best was named to the IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse all-region squad, also earned first-team all-league honors. The junior defender was seventh among the NCAA national leaders in draw controls (3.82 pg), plus collected 42 ground balls. Jodi Battaglia (38 goals, 5 assists) and Mel Rorie (40 goals, 8 assists) were among the conference's top scorers. Battaglia and Rorie received All-America East first- and second-team recognition, respectively.
The top four teams in the conference's regular-season standings will advance to the America East Championship with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The America East postseason tournament will be played May 6 and 8 at the facility of the highest seed.

Three Tournaments and NCAA Championship Participants Highlight 2010 UAlbany Softball Schedule
.jpg)
Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced today the school's 2010 softball schedule. The Great Danes, who have won three America East Conference tournament championships, will compete in three tournaments, face a challenging conference slate, and play at least five games against NCAA Tournament participants from last season.
UAlbany kicks off the season at the Hatter Classic, hosted by Stetson of the Atlantic Sun Conference, on Feb. 26-28 in Florida. The tournament will also feature Bethune-Cookman, the runner-up squad in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference last season, Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the host school. The Great Danes also opened up their 2009 season at Stetson, placing second in the field.
Two weeks later, the Great Danes will embark on a trip to Virginia to play in the Mason Cherry Blossom Classic, hosted by George Mason of the Colonial Athletic Association, on March 12-14. UAlbany will face Cornell, last year's Ivy League champion, on consecutive days in addition to Niagara, the runner-up team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and Mount Saint Mary's of the Northeast Conference.
The Great Danes will trek back down to Virginia for Radford's Highlander Classic on March 20-21. The Highlanders registered 41 victories and won their first Big South Conference title last season. Kent State of the Mid-American Conference and Siena will also be in the field.
UAlbany's home opener will be against Siena in a non-league doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. on March 24 at Albany Field. The Great Danes won all four meetings between the clubs last spring. The teams meet again in Loudonville on April 27. In addition, the Great Danes will play non-conference doubleheaders on the road against Bryant (March 31), Cornell (April 7), Manhattan (April 13), Dartmouth (April 21) and Seton Hall (April 29).
Head coach Chris Cannata's squad will host America East opponents Binghamton (March 27-28), Boston University (April 10-11) and Maine (April 17-18). The team will travel to conference foes Hartford (April 3-4), Stony Brook (April 24-25) and UMBC (May 8-9) to close out the regular season. Five of the seven America East teams, including UAlbany, won at least 30 games last season. The mark was only bettered by the Big 12, Pacific-10 and Southeastern conferences. In addition, the America East champion has advanced to the NCAA regional final twice in the past three seasons.
UAlbany returns eight players who have earned all-conference or all-rookie team honors in their respective careers, which is the most of any school in the conference. Senior hurler Leah McIntosh, one of six seniors on the veteran squad, threw a national-best four perfect games in 2009 and was named the program's fourth America East pitcher of the year in the past seven seasons. She also landed on the NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team. Senior catcher Kat Smith, who has caught seven no-hitters, junior first baseman Gina Mason and junior utility player Kristine Bill are returning All-America East second-team selections.

University of Albany Men's Indoor Track & Field Sweeps A-East Awards For Third Straight Week - UAlbany Sports 2010
.jpg)
Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Sean Halpin and Luke Schoen and were named America East Conference men's indoor track and field performers of the week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The Great Danes have swept the conference's weekly honors all three times this season, as five student-athletes have combined to win six awards to date.
Halpin, the league's male track performer of the week, was named the Male Track Athlete of the Meet at the Great Dane Classic for winning the mile in an IC4A-qualifying time of 4:08.77. His first-place performance among 36 competitors, which topped the America East performance list by over four seconds, helped UAlbany win its third straight title at the annual meet. The meet-record mark was the 30th-best time in the country and the fifth-fastest time in the nation among freshmen this winter. In addition, Halpin qualified for USA Junior Nationals in the 1,500-meter run, easily beating the mile standard of 4:14.74. The middle-distance standout is currently the only freshman in the conference to qualify for IC4As in four separate events.
Schoen earned his second straight field performer of the week honor after winning his second consecutive pole vault crown at the Great Dane Classic. The senior cleared 17-feet, 7-inches and became the first America East student-athlete, male or female, to meet an NCAA provisional mark in any event. His winning mark among the field of 15 was tied for seventh-best in the nation this winter along with Clemson's Xavier Tromp and Air Force's Nick Frawley. It also topped the America East performance list by over a foot and earned him Male Field Athlete of the Meet honors.
UAlbany will be sending its men's 4x400- and 4x800-meter relay teams to the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Friday, Jan. 29. The Great Danes will also send a full squad to the New York Road Runners Saturday Night at the Armory II meet on Saturday, Jan. 30. The scoring meet is slated to include Virginia, Connecticut and Villanova of the Atlantic Coast and Big East conferences.

University of Albany Women's Indoor Track & Field Sweeps A-East Weekly Awards For Second Time This Winter - UAlbany Sports 2010
.jpg)
Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Fey Adaramola and Tiffany Sprenkels were named America East Conference women's indoor track and field performers of the week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The Great Danes have now swept the conference's weekly honors twice this season, as three student-athletes have combined to win five awards to date.
Adaramola is being honored for the third time in as many weeks as the league's top female track performer. The senior captain won the 55-meter dash in 6.96 seconds to qualify for the ECAC Championship and beat out one of the longest-standing school records at the Great Dane Classic. The mark broke Ellakisha Williamson's program standard of 7.01, which was recorded in 1998. It was also just .04 seconds short of meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard and also tied for third-best in the nation, trailing only the 6.94 time posted by Penn State's Shavon Greaves and Bowling Green's Jeanette Pettigrew. Her first-place performance among 63 competitors, which was tops in America East this season, also matched the meet record and helped the Great Danes place fourth as a team. Adaramola also registered a time of 25.13 in the 200, which was .01 short of qualifying the sprinter for ECACs.
Sprenkels was named the women's field performer of the week after eclipsing the ECAC standard in the triple jump for the third straight season. She placed second among 28 competitors in the event with a personal-best mark of 39-feet, 11.25-inches, bettering her previous mark by 3.5 inches. The jump placed the junior second on the America East performance list and ranks among the top 50 nationally this season.
The UAlbany women will send a full squad to the New York Road Runners Saturday Night at the Armory II meet on Saturday, Jan. 30. The scoring meet is slated to include Virginia and Villanova of the Atlantic Coast and Big East conferences.

University of Albany's Christine Hoffman and Field Hockey Squad Claim NCAA National Statistical Awards - Ualbany Sports 2010

Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany's Christine Hoffman finished the 2009 season as the Division I statistical champion in two categories, helping to lead the UAlbany field hockey team to two nationally leading marks, as announced by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Hoffman, a junior goalkeeper, led the nation with an 0.44 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. Hoffman allowed just four goals while making 32 saves in 18 games played this season. She started every game in the cage for the Great Danes and was one of just two America East Conference goalkeepers ranked in the top 25 nationally.
As a team, UAlbany led the country with an .824 save percentage, as Hoffman and freshman goalkeeper Kristi Troch combined for 61 saves and just 13 goals against in 18 games played. Offensively, the Great Danes also posted a Division I-leading 10.56 penalty corners per game, with 190 on the season.
"We had a very good season in many ways," said UAlbany head coach Phil Sykes, who was named America East Conference Coach of the Year and led the Great Danes to their third straight championship appearance. "One of our main priorities on our team is defense. We work hard on it each and every day. To have achieved four national statistical honors in one year is a tremendous achievement and one that our student-athletes should be very proud of."

University of Albany Men's Indoor Track & Field Wins Third Straight Great Dane Classic Title; Women Place Fourth - UAlbany Sports 2010
.jpg)
New York, N.Y. - Luke Schoen provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the men's pole vault and Fey Adaramola eclipsed the school record in the women's 55-meter dash to lead the UAlbany indoor track and field teams at the Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 22. The Great Dane men won the team title for the third straight year, while the women placed fourth at the annual event which was being held at the New York City Armory Track & Field Center.
UAlbany's men's team accumulated 136 points, which was 78 points better than second-place Delaware State to easily win the crown among 27 scoring teams. The Great Danes had 14 IC4A qualifying performances, five event champions and two USA Junior National Championship qualifiers while also eclipsing one school record, one meet record and a provisional mark at the competition. The UAlbany women accumulated 58 points, placing fourth among 27 scoring teams and only behind first-place Seton Hall (98) as well as Toledo (92) and Pennsylvania (68.83). The squad had three individuals qualify for the ECAC meet, two win an event title and one set a school and meet record.
Schoen, a three-time All-American, won the men's pole vault for clearing 17-feet, 7-inches. The mark was two inches shy of his program standard and was also tied for fifth-best in the nation. The senior was named the Great Dane Classic Male Field Athlete of the Meet for his efforts.
Adaramola paced the women's squad with a meet-record time of 6.96 seconds in the 55-meter dash to beat out one of the program's oldest school records. The mark broke Ellakisha Williamson's program standard of 7.01, which was recorded in 1998. It was just .04 seconds short of meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard and also the third-best time in the nation this season, trailing only the 6.94 mark posted by Penn State's Shavon Greaves and Bowling Green's Jeanette Pettigrew. Alie Beauvais and Peter Rowell each turned in an IC4A qualifying time in the men's sprints. Beauvais placed fourth in the 400 in 48.36, while Rowell was eighth in the 500 and clocked in at 1:05.16.
Sean Halpin was named the Great Dane Classic Male Track Athlete of the Meet for winning the Mile in 4:08.77 and qualifying for the IC4A championship in the event. The meet-record mark was also the seventh-best time in the country as well as the fastest in the nation recorded by a freshman this winter. Halpin qualified for the USA Junior National Championships in the 1,500-meter run, which easily beat out the Mile standard of 4:14.74.
Led by Valete Graham, UAlbany took the top two spots in the men's long jump. The senior, who fell two centimeters short of automatically qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring, had a winning leap of 24-6.50. The mark eclipsed his own standard of 24-5 set at last season's Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas and qualified him for the IC4A championship. It was also just under a foot shy of the NCAA provisional mark. Fred Casimo also qualified for IC4As by posting a second-place mark of 23-5.50.
Nasim Siddeeq, the reigning USTFCCCA Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year, and Tiffany Sprenkels each placed second in the men's and women's triple jump to qualify for the IC4A and ECAC championship meets, respectively. Siddeeq leaped 49-0.25, while Sprenkels recorded a personal-best jump of 39-11.25. Kadeem Howell also met the IC4A standard for the first time in his career by finishing fifth with a mark of 47-0.75, rounding out a stellar day for the horizontal jumpers.
Wilfredo de Jesus Elias and Kadine Johhnson eclipsed the IC4A and ECAC qualifying marks in the men's and women's weight throw to lead the throwing corps. de Jesus Elias, who won the event for the third time in as many meets this winter, posted a toss which sailed 60-10.50. Johnson had a fourth-place mark of 54-1.
In addition to Halpin, UAlbany had four other student-athletes meet an IC4A standard in a men's middle-distance event. Tyler Fogarty fell just over a second shy of an NCAA provisional mark for his second-place performance of 1:51.77 in the 800, while Aaron Lozier was sixth in 1:54.62. Nick Santos and Paul Lagno were second and third in the 1,000 for navigating the track in 2:26.92 and 2:27.81, respectively.
Alex Leuchanka highlighted the Great Danes' performances in the distance races. The freshman's second-place time of 14:57.87 in the 5,000-meter run, which was just over a second shy of the winning mark, qualified him for the USA Junior National Championships in June. Laura Cummings led the women's side by winning the 3,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 10:00.97.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team also qualified for IC4A postseason competition. Jonathan Santana, Jeffery Barnes, Ebube Abara and Beauvais combined to post a winning time of 3:14.17.
The UAlbany indoor track and field teams will participate in two different meets next weekend. Select student-athletes will head to Madison Square Garden to compete at the 103rd Millrose Games on Friday, Jan. 29, while most of UAlbany's student-athletes will compete at the New York Road Runners Saturday Night at the Armory II on Saturday, Jan. 30.

University of Albany Indoor Track & Field Teams Post 12 IC4A and ECAC Marks and Win Three Events at Penn State - UAlbany Sports 2010
.jpg)
University Park, Pa. - John Moore shattered the program standard in the men's 1,000-meter run and ran the fastest split for the winning 4x800-meter relay squad which set a meet record to lead a strong outing for the UAlbany indoor track and field teams at the Penn State Northeast Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 16. Fey Adaramola met two ECAC marks for the second straight meet to pace the women's squad.
The Great Danes eclipsed 12 IC4A and ECAC marks, won three events and set three meet records at a competition comprised of mostly institutions from the Big 10 and Big East conferences. The men's field also featured three reigning conference champions in UAlbany, Saint Francis, Pa. and Cornell, while the women's side was highlighted by two of the nation's top-25 teams in 10th-ranked Penn State and 22nd-ranked West Virginia.
Led by Moore, the men's middle-distance group saw five Great Danes qualify for the IC4A championship in an individual event. Moore surpassed the meet record in the 1,000 for clocking in a third-place time of 2:22.36, beating out the old program standard of 2:24.86 which was registered by teammate Tyler Fogarty at last year's America East championship meet. Fogarty placed sixth in the event in 2:26.26, while Sean Halpin was eighth in 2:26.87. Fogarty and Halpin also qualified for IC4As with their respective times.
Paul Lagno and Nick Santos rounded out the list of Great Dane men in the middle-distance group to qualify for the IC4A meet in March. Lagno placed fourth in the Mile in 4:13.60, while Santos was eighth in the 800 for finishing in 1:54.48. Laura Cummings led all women's middle-distance runners with a seventh-place time of 5:00.89 in the Mile, which was 1.88 seconds short of the ECAC standard.
Adaramola led all women's sprinters, finishing second overall and first among the collegians in the 60-meter dash for crossing the tape in 7.61. The senior captain only finished behind Natasha Hastings, who won two gold medals as a member of the United States' 4x400-meter relay team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin. Sheena Simpkins and Sherez Mohamed fell just shy of an ECAC qualifying time in the 500- and 400-meter dash events, respectively. Simpkins, a transfer from Mount Saint Mary's where she was two-time All-Northeast Conference selection in the 500, placed seventh in the event in 1:16.29. Mohamed finished 16th in the 400 for navigating the track in 58.69.
Alie Beauvais and Jonathan Santana each qualified for the IC4A meet to highlight all men's sprinters. Beauvais was second in the 500 with a time of 1:03.34. Santana finished ninth in the event with a mark of 1:04.67.
Luke Schoen and Wilfredo de Jesus Elias led all UAlbany field eventers with winning marks in the men's pole vault and weight throw, respectively, while also qualifying for IC4As in the process. Schoen set a meet record for clearing 16-feet, 8.75-inches, while de Jesus Elias' winning mark was 59-7.75.
Rounding out the list of top field performers were Valete Graham and Tiffany Sprenkels, who both fell less than a foot short of the IC4A and ECAC marks with sixth-place finishes in the men's and women's triple jump. Graham leaped 46-10.75, while Sprenkels registered a mark of 38-7.75.
Three relay teams also qualified for IC4A and ECAC postseason competition, which was highlighted by the men's 4x800-meter relay consisting of Halpin, Santos, Moore and Fogarty. The foursome's winning time of 7:33.97 was a meet record. Santana, Jeffery Barnes, Ebube Abara and Beauvais combined for a fifth-place time of 3:15.49 in the men's 4x400, while Mohamed, Simpkins, Tierra Chavis and Adaramola posted an eighth-place mark of 3:51.54 in the event on the women's side.
The UAlbany indoor track and field teams will return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 when they host the 8th Annual Great Dane Classic at the New York City Armory Track and Field Center beginning at 12:30 p.m. Last year, UAlbany swept the team titles for the first time ever after combining to break seven school records.

University of Albany Track & Field's Beauvais, Adaramola, Wills and Johnson Receive America East Weekly Awards - UAlbany Sports 2010
.jpg)
Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Alie Beauvais, Fey Adaramola, Freddie Wills and Kadine Johnson were named America East Conference track and field performers of the week, as announced on Tuesday, Jan. 12 by the league office. All four Great Danes are being recognized for their efforts at last weekend's Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic and Carleton Crowell Open.
Beauvais, who was named the male track performer of the week, met two IC4A standards at Yale which were also America East bests this winter. Individually, he placed second among 67 competitors in the 400-meter dash by crossing the tape in 48.89 seconds. The senior captain, who fell one spot shy of garnering All-America honors in his last collegiate appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, also anchored the victorious 4x400-meter relay which registered a winning time of 3:18.02. Beauvais ran a 48.8-second split, which helped the Great Danes beat out second-place Connecticut of the Big East Conference by .39 seconds in the field of 23 squads.
Adaramola, who earned female track performer of the week laurels, eclipsed two ECAC qualifying marks at Yale which were also the fastest times in the conference this season. The senior captain placed second among 41 runners in the 60-meter dash by finishing with a blistering time of 7.59, just .01 seconds shy of the winner from Connecticut and .04 seconds short of matching Ellakisha Williamson's school record. Adaramola also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second among 19 squads in 3:51.55 and just .17 seconds shy of first-place UConn. With Adaramola's split time of 55.9, the Great Danes' runner-up finish was the America East's first ECAC qualifying mark of the winter and almost six seconds better than Boston University's previous conference-best time of 3:57.35.
Wills earned male field performer of the week honors for his first-place finish in the heptathlon at Army's Carleton Crowell Open. The senior captain accumulated 4,807 points, which qualified him for IC4As. Wills, the America East decathlon champion last spring, won the long jump with a mark of 22-feet,10-inches, the high jump by clearing 6-7 and the 60-meter high hurdles in 8.64. In addition, he tied for first in the 60-meter dash by crossing the tape in 7.34. Wills' mark in the long jump was an America East best this season, while his performance in the high jump ranked second in the conference.
Johnson was awarded women's field performer of the week accolades for winning the weight throw and shot put at Army. Her mark of 55-8.25 in the weight throw shattered her own school record of 55-1 and qualified her for the ECAC Championship meet for the second straight year. It was also the best mark recorded by an America East student-athlete in the event this winter by almost two feet, and bettered the second-place finisher from Lehigh by almost seven feet. The junior's winning toss in the shot put was 40-0.50, which was also the second-best mark in the America East this season.
The UAlbany indoor track and field teams will compete at the Penn State Northeast Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 16. In addition to Penn State, the men's 11-team field is slated to feature five Big East Conference schools and four reigning conference champions. The women's 11-team field is scheduled to be made up of seven institutions from the Big 10 and Big East conferences, including 10th-ranked Penn State and 22nd-ranked West Virginia.

UAlbany Baseball Travels to the Carolina's and California to Highlight 2010 Schedule
.jpg)
Albany, N.Y. - Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced the 2010 University at Albany baseball schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The Great Danes, who returned to the America East Conference Championship last season after winning the league title in 2007, will compete in a tournament at Coastal Carolina and make a six-game trip to California to highlight the non-conference schedule. UAlbany will also play an America East Conference schedule against five league opponents.
UAlbany kicks off the season with a three-game series at UNC Greensboro on Feb. 26-28. The Great Danes will visit Coastal Carolina from March 5-7 to play in four games at the Caravelle Resort Tournament for the second straight season, where they will take on Pittsburgh, Toledo and Ball Sate. It is the first meeting between the Great Danes and all three teams.
The Great Danes will play four games at N.Y. Tech (March 12-14) and play three contests at St. John's on March 19-21 before hosting the first home game of the season against Marist on March 23. The Great Danes will then hit the road for six games on the West Coast, playing a four-game series at Loyola Marymount (March 26-28) before playing single games against Cal State Northridge, Santa Clara and Sacramento State. UAlbany will visit Manhattan on April 7 before kicking off the conference slate.
UAlbany starts league play at Varsity Field on April 10-11 with the first America East series of the season, hosting Maine. The Great Danes will also welcome league opponents Hartford and Stony Brook to their home diamond, and will play conference foes UMBC and Binghamton on the road, while also visiting Hartford and Maine.
UAlbany will play a home-and-home series with Le Moyne, hosting the Dolphins on April 20 and visiting Syracuse on May 4. The Great Danes will also play at Marist (April 13), while Manhattan (April 28) will also visit Varsity Field in non-conference action.
UAlbany is led by senior outfielder Brendan Rowland, the team's top returning hitter from last season. Despite losing seven pitchers to graduation last season, the Great Danes return all-conference second-team honorees Dave Kubiak and Zach Kraham to the mound. A junior right hander, Kubiak will pace the pitching rotation after finishing last season with a team-best 55 strikeouts, while sophomore righty Kraham posted a 5-2 record in his first season with the Great Danes, starting nine games. He became UAlbany's second pitcher in as many seasons to earn all-rookie accolades, following Kubiak in 2008. Kraham has fanned 37 opposing batters this season in 46 innings, holding opponents to a staff-low .263 average.

University of Albany Indoor Track & Field Teams Combine to Post Seven IC4A and ECAC Qualifying Marks at Yale - UAlbany Sports 2010
.jpg)
New Haven, Conn. - Alie Beauvais, Tyler Fogarty and Fey Adaramola were among five Great Danes to factor into a pair of IC4A and ECAC qualifying times and lead a stellar season debut for the UAlbany men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic on Saturday, Jan. 9. Thirteen of the marks posted by the Great Danes at the non-scoring meet were America East Conference bests this winter.
Adaramola and Beauvais, both senior captains, paced a strong outing by the sprinters with runner-up finishes in their respective events. Adaramola clocked in a personal-best time of 7.59 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash to meet the ECAC standard, while Beauvais registered a career-best mark of 48.89 in the men's 400 to qualify for the IC4A championship. Adaramola's mark was just .01 seconds off the winning time, which was posted by Connecticut's Danielle Lyte, and .04 seconds shy of the school record of 7.55 recorded by Ellakisha Williamson in 1998.
Freshmen Jake Rachiele, Tristan Akong and Jonathan Santana, last year's New York State federation champion in the 400 on the scholastic level, all recorded top-five performances in the men's sprints. Rachiele was third in the 60 in 7.09, while Akong was fifth in 7.11. Santana completed the 400 in 49.89, which was good for fifth.
Fogarty and Laura Cummings each posted a second-place finish in the Mile to highlight the middle distance group. Fogarty's mark of 4:14.24 qualified him for the IC4A championship. Cummings crossed the tape in 5:04.17, and also recorded a fourth-place time of 2:18.38 in the 800-meter run. Rounding out the list of top-five finishers on the track were Paul Lagno and Alex Leuchanka, who placed third and fourth in the men's 3,000 with marks of 8:39.07 and 8:39.99, respectively.
Celine Cauderlier led all Great Danes in the field events with a first-place finish in the women's pole vault. Cauderlier, who competed at the France National Championships last summer, had a winning mark of 10-feet, 11.75-inches. Pat McNish placed fourth in the women's long jump with a leap of 18-1.75 in her collegiate debut, while Kadeem Howell finished fifth on the men's side with a mark of 21-11.
All three men's relay teams met the standards for March's IC4A meet, while the squad's 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays each recorded winning times to beat out Connecticut and Seton Hall of the Big East Conference in both races. UAlbany's 4x400-meter relay consisting of Peter Rowell, Santana, Ebube Abara and Beauvais finished in 3:18.02, edging out the Huskies by .39 seconds. Nick Santos, Sean Halpin, Fogarty and John Moore combined for a time of 7:44.35 in the 4x800, which was just over two seconds ahead of second-place Seton Hall. Halpin, Abara, Santos and Cory Greczyn teamed up for a fourth-place finish in 10:19.41 as members of the distance medley relay.
In addition, the women's 4x400-meter relay squad met the ECAC standard and placed second behind Connecticut. Sherez Mohamed, Sheena Simpkins, Tierra Chavis and Adaramola's mark of 3:51.55 was just .17 shy of the Huskies' winning time. Simpkins, a transfer from Mount Saint Mary's where she was an eight-time All-Northeast Conference selection, also turned in a sixth-place performance of 58.71 in the 400. The mark was the fastest time recorded by an America East runner this season.
The UAlbany men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at the Penn State Northeast Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. In addition to Penn State, the men's 10-team field is slated to feature five Big East Conference schools and four reigning conference champions. The women's 10-team field is scheduled to be made up of seven institutions from the Big 10 and Big East conferences, including 10th-ranked Penn State and 22nd-ranked West Virginia.
