University of Albany's Fanning & Johnson Selected America East Track & Field Performers of the Week - UAlbany Sports 2011


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Kathryn Fanning has been chosen America East Conference Female Track Performer of the Week, while teammate Kadine Johnson was voted Female Field Performer of the Week, as announced on Tuesday, Jan. 25 by the conference office.

Fanning, a freshman from Manlius, N.Y., was UAlbany's lone individual champion at the ninth annual Great Dane Classic when she won the 1,000-meter run in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:55.09. Fanning led UAlbany to the team championship, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City on Jan. 21. The Great Danes scored 103 points, while second-place Pittsburgh had 92.

Johnson, a senior from New Rochelle, N.Y., was also a key figure in her team's first-place effort. She placed second in the shot put with a mark of 46-feet, 4.75-inches and was third in the weight throw with a toss of 56-02.25. Johnson's performances in each event qualified her for the ECAC Championships in March and were each the second-best throws in program history.

Paw Prints: UAlbany's Sherez Mohamed ran the second leg on the second-place 4x400-meter relay that hit the finish line in 3:50.11, an ECAC-qualifying time, plus was second in the 400-meter dash ... Brianne Bellon (800m), Christen Griffin (60m-hurdles) and Brittany Eveleth (500m) turned in times that placed each runner in the ECAC meet ... UAlbany will compete at the 104th Millrose Games on Friday, Jan. 28 at Madison Square Garden.
